The Z70V "refresh" model, anyone else anxiously waiting? - Page 3

My friend flies over here from Taiwan a lot. He says the prices over there on electronics are crazy. I believe him. He buys a lot of stuff over here when he's visiting.

To be honest, this is probably the laptop I was waiting for. Unfortunately, it's far too late for when I needed it. I guess I'll just have to be happy with what I've got. I mean it's not bad, far from it. Just a little greedy I guess.

I'm excited and nervous. I HOPE that I can get it before university starts (in September), otherwise I'll have to settle for either the z71v or older z70v.

BTW for us Canadians: I've been hearing some conflicting opinions about when the new z70v will actually be available in Canada. It seems some people think that Canada will receive the new models a few weeks after the U.S. gets them, and others think merely a few days. I heard one person say (over at the notebookforum.ca) that the U.S. will get the models first and whatever is leftover will go to Canadian resellers (if there is a shortage, we will have to wait for another shipment). And one other person over there said that Asus will release the model from California to the U.S. and Canada AT THE SAME TIME, it's just that it may take a few extra days to reach Canada because of the distance/border.

Can anyone comment on which they think is accurate? I'm hoping the second guy is right!

Thanks.

Chuck232, I feel the same way. Oh, well. I'm still happy with my Z71v.

I like the carbon fiber chassis. Does anyone know what other notebooks use carbon-fiber in their chassis?

Sly, the "other person" you were referring to represents canadasys,so you'd think he known what he's saying. Otherwise, i think the best way is to judge by the original z70v. I think it appeared here a little over a week after it appeared in the states. If z70v[F5] appears in the sates early august, we should have it by mid-august.

Any other notebooks?

I'm anxious. Like many others, I too have pre-ordered from ISTNC.

A question though, a short while ago there was a post about palm rest fading in Notebook General. Does anyone know from knowledge or experience if this same problem happens to the carbon fiber chassis of the Z70V?

6pt7, excellent question, I wanna know too!!

I am waiting for it, but I don't know if I should order it. Part me says: "well, I am ordering a new notebook, so I might as well make sure that I get the best features available"

The other part of me says, "But you'll never use the features cause I barely play games...I am more of a console gamer, and if I do game it'll most likely be something by EA Sports), and I don't really see a need for BT. So the extra 100 bucks is just going to waste"

Plus I'd have to wait an extra month, month and a half for the notebook. Actually, if they made a version of the Z70V (same chassis and screen) with integrated video for 200 bucks less, I'd have no problem getting that. Argh, so many decisions...

I just re-read what I wrote, and good god the tenses and grammer...*shudder*

I know about the Z70a, but that's WXGA, and I want the WSXGA+ screen. I would've picked up the original M6 series if it wasn't for the screen. I've been using a Toshiba 5205 for the last 2 years, which has a UXGA screen so I can't step down to anything else. Well, I could since I've been considering the Z63a. However, the screen on the Z63a would look a bit sharper due to a smaller pixel pitch, so if the Z63a and Z70a are about the same price, then I'd rather go for the Z63a due to it being more portable. But then I have the problem of poor vertical viewing angles for 14 WXGA screens.

Bahhh...

The screen is WXGA

ha sorry...

It probably doesn't make sense to include anything higher than WXGA on a machine with integrated video. Quality might degrade at native resolution, it might even lag.

I highly doubt that. Anything in Windows that's 2D is more affected by the RAMDAC than anything, so running at a higher resolution won't make 2D lag.

It's probably cause Asus wants to differentiate more between the A and V series since there is a 200 dollar price difference.

Just out of curiosity, is the Port Replicator that's included on ISTNC's site an actual docking station? Or is it just a separate piece of equipment that's connected via a cable?

I need a notebook for a College too, I've been researching for along time now! The 9300 was just too big, the Ferrari 4000 came with a high price tag. The Z70v meets all my requirements.

Any idea when will these be availible in the US ?
