It will not be a "glossy" screen... It will be the kind that doesn't reflect light as much (matte?).

oh ok thats good. but the screen will still be sharp and crisp right? only because my one problem with buying laptop is i can't see the screen to see if i like it. as long as it has really good color etc im fine, glossy screen gets kinda annoying anyway

I find glossy screens to be annoying as well, which is why I like the fact that my 71V doesn't have it. The 70V has a very sharp screen, and I’m sure you'll be very happy with it. Where do you live? Maybe there is an ASUS reseller nearby that would let you see one.

I too would love to see the screen in person before buying it but it looks like that ain't gonna happen. I've read a few reviews of people who have the current Z70V, but I haven't seen any well taken photographs (and even if there were some, I am viewing it through the crappy LCD on the crappy laptop I am on right now, so it can only be as good as the system i'm viewing the picture from) ... however, I'm assuming that the screen will be the same as the one which is on the current Z70V?

yeah ive read all the reviews and worries are gone. for instance here is a quote from a review:
"The widescreen, 1680x1050 resolution is perfect for a 15.4" notebook. My screen has zero dead/stuck pixels, is bright and vivid with great color range, and NO sparkles whatsoever. It's got the matte finish, which I find infinitely preferable to those hideous high gloss/glare screens that make me feel like I'm staring into a mirror. I've played several DVDs and all looked very sharp. I'll bet any game will look great on this beautiful screen."
sounds good enough for me

Does anyone know what kind of speakers and/or brand speakers the Z70 refresh will have? I was so convinced to get the Z71V but it looks like I'm gonna hold out for the Z70V refresh. Hopefully it will come out soon and as close to the "official release date" as possible cause the wait is killin' me !

speakers? speakers don't count in laptop. every laptop has crappy speakers...except the ones with sub. either get headphones or buy better ones

The closest one to you is probably IST in North Carolina. I'm not sure how far you want to travel, but there are also a few in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. You can find US Asus dealers by state on this thread: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=94364

I totally agree with you. I don't see a glossy screen as a plus at all, it's more of a negative in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm sure it's the same screen. It's a very nice screen. I think there's some pics of it on the Geare2play.com website. So check it out. I bought it after seeing those pics. I was afraid at first, didnt want a crappy screen.

speakers are not a deal breaker with me, but it would be nice if it had a pair of Harmon Kardon or something along that lines. Some people do actually listen to music on their laptops, *gulp*, without headphones ! And carrying around a pair of speakers kind of defeats the purpose of "portability".
It's not that big a deal. I was just curious.

I don't suppose anyone knows whether Asus plans to refresh the Z70V in the UK? (Known as the M6V series over here...)

I would be perfectly happy with the current top-end model, the M6787V-LP: Mobile Intel® Pentium 760(Sonoma)Processor 2.0 GHz, HD 80 GB (5400Rpm), 15.4" (WXGA 1280x800), Double Layer DVD-RW, 512 DDR II SDRam (512x1), ATI Mobility Radeon X600 64mb DDR, Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi, Microsoft® Windows® XP Pro ... but for some reason, us poor brits only get a WXGA screen!

I don't really care about the X700 in the new model, because i very rarely play games, and in fact, the hypermemory X600 in the current model suits me fine, as I use 3DSMax quite a bit! However, if they decided to bring the model with a WSXGA screen out over here, i'd be first in line to buy one!

actually, there is a possibility that there will be a Z71v refresh if they decide to enable the expresscard slot that's currently sealed off...
