or did it not come with one. why would they give you a dvd burner and not give you software to use it?????????????

all they give you is nero, but that is useless. i think it only makes dvd-data cds. it can't call up my mpeg files.

Lol, ebay is a nice place. Aren't you a little bit worked up over a dvd program? I wouldn't burn a dvd-video from a laptop anyway as their quality does suck and chances are your dvd player won't be able to recognize it.

Use DVD Shrink along with DVD Decrypter. All free programs available online. Google them.

Check out www.vcdhelp.com, and it'll help you prepare files for DVD burning. Keep in mind, it uses mostly free, downloadable programs, so that should keep you going.

Hopefully it doesnt suck THAT bad. If it does, its a Gateway problem and not a notebook problem. It shouldnt matter that its a notebook. What determines whether or not a dvd will play on a dvd player is the brand of media, not the writer. If the writer IS the issue, then id highly suggest looking elsewhere, cause that would be a joke if its true.

I dont believe the 'quality' of the digital file withina disk is any different. You may perhaps burn more coasters, but id be weary of stating any quality differences.

Computers usually dont come with dvd movie writing software. Thats much more of a 3rd party type of thing. They especially dont come with software to decode/encode retail DVD movies, as that would be illegal.

There are plenty of utils on the internet that you can download, usually costing you a small bit of money that shoild be able to convert mpeg files into DVD format.
