Who Has A 5660 That Is Still Running Strong?

Thread Starter
I have had my 5660 since 11/02. Except for the rear LCD panel cracking near hinges ($40 fix) & the CMOS battery needing replacing (twice), The unit has worked without issue.

I use mine as a desktop replacement (never leaves the house). I have a scanner, printer & external HD connected to 3 of the 4 USB ports. I switch off connecting a RIO player, Multi-Card reader & Video converter to the fourth USB port. I use both the internal LAN connection & a wireless adapter connected to the PCMCIA port. I also have a external CD burner connected to the firewire port & a wireless mouse connected to the PS/2 port.

I edit video, burn Cd's and surf the net. I probably run the laptop approx. 5 hrs. a day.

I have added 512 ram (1gig total) & a new faster internal HD Hitachi E7K60 40 gig 7200 rpm.

I have the process of cracking the case to replace the CMOS battery down to a freakin science

Any others 5660 owners with their 5660 still running let us know

5660 two years plus

Yah my 5660 still rocks although the LCD screen is starting to show some wear and tear. I rely on this beast for all my gaming (WOW and CS source), intensive video editing, dvd burning, music editing, office/admin.

I have to reformat it though to give it a fresh start and am thinking about getting the Acer Ferarri 4000 but I think I'll wait. Kind of bummed I can't upgrade the 5660 with a 64 chip from AMD. Oh well.

I've used the laptop to travel and almost daily move it from my stand/wireless keyboard mouse set up to another room or to another studio to edit, starbucks as well. I wish it was lighter that's my only concern but I'm a pocket pc geek so I have all my computer needs there too.

Had mine since April '03. Its been in for a few repairs but when it doesnt have probs it runs great. The screen is beginning to dim though.

I'm looking for a dvd writer to put in the second bay. I read somwhere that a NEC writer will fit in my 5660. If you have the NEC drive installed let me know what model # it is so I can get one. Thanks

How's this for posting to a dead thread? 3/23/2012 and my Sager 5660 is being used now more than ever! I just loaded with Windows 8 Beta on it and though not everything works (second monitor/video card isn't recognized by windows 8 yet), it's much faster than xp. I use it daily for facebook, twitter, watching netflix, bloomberg, cnn and sometimes hockey. It does a good job of heating up the office too. winknudge.gif I found this thread cuz I gotta replace that internal clock battery.
