Dell Inspiron 700m replacement ?

When will Dell replace the Inspiron 700m with the 800m or some other model ? Sept ?

What about this new 14" notebook coming out from Dell (new premium line ?)
thanks.

I dont think the 700m will be replaced soon. The new 14" at the end of the year is goin to replace the 600m and the new "lexus" line is going to be a whole other high price lineup.

thanks for the fast reply WeeB.

I'll wait for the "lexus" line to debut (just in case I like one of the notebook models). I would like to get a premium notebook which is portable (about 14") this Fall.

I'm also thinking of replacing my 2-year-old Dimension 8300 next year with the XPS Gen 3 notebook. I wonder if it will have a 19" screen ?!?

There are rumors of a 19" laptop coming out sometimes next year, but who knows what is true. I dont really understand why someone would want a 19" laptop bu to each his own. Also the "lexus" line is supposed to cost substantionaly more than the current inspiron lineup.

Has anyone heard of a replacement? I currently have a 6000d that I want to get rid of because it's just too big and heavy. I wish Dell made a 14" or 12" wide screen with decent graphics. The X1 looks nice, but 1.1GHz stinks for Photoshop.

the new 14" coming out next year is supposed to be widescreen......rumours tho

Can you tell me where you heard those rumors? And what time frame? Next year as in 2006? Or this fall?

Although not the fastest mobile processor these days, I'm almost 100% sure the 1.1 GHz PM will run photoshop fine. You can run photoshop on computers much slower than that fine, so why not on the X1?

The rumor came from one of the computer mags who reported that that Dell had ordered a new 14" from one of the ODMs for the fall, that is the extent of the rumor, just that blurb in one of the mags. I haven't heard it from any other source except the echo chamber here.

^^^^ yup richard carver is correct

Stink, I wish Dell had released a revamped 600m, or a revamped 700m. Even though I am only purchasing this laptop for a year or so till the new Yonah based laptops come out, I still want decent performance, and the latest feature set so I can get a decent resell price.

I can't wait to see what Dell's new 14" laptop will be like....

What I would love to see:
-widescreen/glossy (like 700m's screen)
-Under 6 lbs
-4+ hrs battery life
-multi-media buttons
-good speakers (maybe harmon/kardon)
-good graphics card
-full size keyboard
-nice design (maybe something like 9300/6000/700m)
-good price!

Ahh....if only....
It's so hard to find all of these features in a laptop without paying a lot!

So far, I think most of the 14" laptops on the market are about 5lbs, so I would imagine Dell's would be under 6lbs as well.

I second that. We don't have to worry about the weight and the price. However, I wish they would make the design like the 9300 and the 6000, but with a black border and not white. Black and silver would look good, and I really don't like the white. It's too Apple-y.

You mean like the XPS2?
Yeah man, a 14" Widescreen with glossy surface would be awesome. I think Dell would have people lining up to get one, too bad they haven't made one yet, or I'd honestly drop down any amount of money. The 6.65 pounds of the 6000d is killing me, so is its size.

Yeah, I do. However, I don't want the lid to look like the XPS I think that looks tacky. I would like a regular 9300 lid with a black border instead of white.

Yeah the 700m seems to be in pretty good demand. I have no plans replacing mine anytime soon, I upgrade it not too long ago and its doing what I need. I think when I do Upgrade it will be for a XPS Type notebook.
For what the 700m is used for there really is no reason to upgrade it. So what if it isn't the sonoma platform, any centrino laptop out today is still plenty fast for basic computing tasks in which the 700m excels at. Everyone looking for a nice videocard in a 12" laptop should keep on waiting I think. I'm completly happy with the 700m and see no need to get rid of it anytime soon.

Yeah, a GPU is the major upgrade for the 700m.
