What Ram Did You Get - Page 2

Uh, ok.

The BIOS on our machines set the ram timing. Even if you have 4-4-4-8 memory, the 9300/XPS2 BIOS will set the timing to 4-4-4-11. Does 4-4-4-8 memory run faster at 4-4-4-11 than regular 4-4-4-11 memory? Hell no!

So as has been stated already, ram timing does not mean anything with our machines.

I know, but you were talking about RAM in general in your initial post, not our laptop's ram

Bios sets RAM frequency and timings from the RAMs SPD table.

shoman24v, could you show us a screenie of CPU-Z showing your ram-timings?

Interesting...

I downloaded CPU-z and took a look at my Memories.

I have an original 256 MB Dell and a 1024 MB Transcend.

Here's what the timings are set to:
4-4-4-12

Here's the info from the SPD ROMs on the DIMMs:
--Dell-supplied:
Hyundai mfg., 4-4-4-12 best timing
--Transcend:
Transcend mfg, 4-4-4-11 best timing

Hmmm.

I got two sticks of Transcend 1gigs and they have been nothing but great to me. Works wonderful in battlefield 2

Both DIMMs will run on the timings of the slowest DIMM.

My i9300 came with a Samsung 1GB PC4200 4-4-4-11

My Transcend sticks run at 4 4 4 11

1 stick of Transcend RAM here too, along with the 256mb dell RAM

I bought KINGSTON 1G 200P KVR533D2S4/1G from Newegg. I sent it back today. After getting a lot of memory-related BSODs, I ran memcheck and it came up with lots of errors.

My guess is that there is no way to lower the Ram Timings in the BIOS?

See the Transcend Poll .. 77 votes, 15 people with errors and more needing RMAs. Many doing more than 1 RMA. I've placed more than a few dozen RAM orders from Crucial over the years and I've never had a bad stick. THAT is not having to worry. The poll and all the other postings here (especially with the eliphia chips) should tell you that buying the transcend from newegg IS a hit or miss. MANY people have had to RMA for replacements.

Exactly, and I also find it somewhat amazing that one is willing to spend a minimum of $1,500 on a notebook, but hesitate to spend an extra $30 - $40 on memory. I know, money is money, but jeesh. And to the poster who's had problems w/ Crucial, I can undrstand not wanting to go there again if that's been your experience; that is VERY surprising to me as I've never had a problem w/ Crucial in the 10+ years I've bought that brand.

Somehow I find this hard to believe, how is it that according to you out of whatever number crucial has failed the most, and in my time building systems since 94 crucial has been the least? I have seen Kingston, Patriot, and alot of generics failing the most. Always bogles the mind. Things like this make one wonder sometimes how much you can acutally gauge anything. Patriot has been the largest POS generic mem I have ever worked with imho.

Agreed with 100%

My stick is fine in my 9300, 1GB Trancend. Did not run mem test, but I have not had any errors.

Kingston value ram 1 gig stick. No errors in memtest when run overnight. Elpida chips.

Oddly enough my two Transcend sticks had Zero Errors, yes the ones with Elpida chips
