RMA Mood Swings

Here I am with my 9880 and my 30 Day trial period closing in. I am happy with my 9880 but have always been an AMD fan and am considering RMAing to wait untill August when the AMD (D900K) comes out.

My System:
Sager 9880
3.4 P4 650 w 2MB
NVIDIA Ultra 256MB
1 GIG Ram
MCE Tv tuner
BlueTooth / WiFi Lan module
2 SATA 80GIG 5400RPM

I recieved my 9880 with a flawless screen and so far everything seems to be working A+. My reasons for considering RMAing are as follows.

AMD D900K
Dual Core option (Motherboard seems more future proof since it will accept Dual core CPU's and the P4 6XX series seems like it will be the last to work in the 9880.
FX Processor option (faster than a p4 in gaming?)
A cooler running notebook (AMD Processors run much cooler than intels P4's)
ATI X800 XT ((how much performance gain (if any from the Nvidia ULTRA) & cooler running?)
Does the Raid Controller on the D900k require a boot disk to intall XP? This is kind of a pain for the 9880.
Will the D900K support Win 64 better than the 9880?

PRICE: I would think the AMD D900k would cost less (like a few $100) than the 9880.

I have been a Nforce fan for awhile and am wondering how the chipsets in the D900K compare the the Nforce boards.

Would it be better to keep the 9880 since it has gone through many revisions (9860, Mobo revision, Video Cards) or buy the first version of the D900K and hope there are no problems?

Please give me your input / opinions.

Thanks in advance.

the d900k amd will not be cheaper in my estimation especially with a top end fx processor. the graphics card at a brand new ATI top of the line will likely be more expensive than the existing nvidia.

the fx is faster for gaming but in all reality you wont notice unless you want to be the king of the benchmarks. since the difference is not so huge. i mean in all reality if you put a top of the line amd and a top of the line p4 together for the real world play you would have a pretty hard time telling the difference.

depending on if you need it right away or not. i would wait until second generation of the amd before i bought. the first generation is usually the most buggy and also tends to be the least upgradeable (my personal feeling). if you need it right away i would get the 9880 since it is proven and solid. but if you can afford to wait i would get the amd because well it is an amd with a dual core....

Fidget thanks for your input. I have decided to keep the 9880. I would rather have a 2nd or 3rd generation 9880 instead of a 1st generation AMD and I don't want to chance getting a flawless screen again. Like you said the P4 is right next to the amd benches, except for the dual core and expensive fx-57.
