Key difference between the two is the processor speed 1.86-1.73.. dedicated graphics card-integrated.. and the ram - DDR-DDR2

They're both school offers so i'm quite stuck with the processor speeds or graphic cards...
will having DDR ram instead of DDR2 ram be a great liability??

wow! where are you buying from for such a good deal? I'm thinking of grabbing myself a T43 as well but I find the IBM site to be too expensive. If you could point me in the right direction (ie. reseller) thatd be great. Personally, I'd go with the 1.73, ram is where the speed truly is. good luck

students in singapore universities get these offers... but i listed the prices in US dollars already..
but ddr2 makes a big difference from ddr?? and will i be taking a huge sacrifice by not getting the dedicated graphics card??

DDR and DDR2 are significantly faster, but it all depends on what you're doing, and I doubt you'd notice a difference. If you want the laptop to last more than a year, I would definitely go with the dedicated graphics card. Even though the x300 is still on the lowend, having that dedicated graphics card will help your laptop last even longer.

You might want to check out some of the T42p laptops--not only are they similarly equipped, but they're priced a few hundred lower. I couldve gotten a 2ghz/1gbDDR/60gb/FireGL T2 128mb for $2145 through the educational system, where it normally cost $3145.

If gaming will ever be an issue, though (and considering you ARE buying a Thinkpad), I wouldn't worry and just go with the x300. The performance over the Integrated Graphics will save you in the long run. Good luck!

EDIT: I believe the T43 line uses DDR2 exclusively, while the T42 uses DDR.

Yeah, the first one is definitely a way better deal. And even if it were DDR, the speed shouldn't be much different.
