DDR400 on Ferrari 4000 - Page 2

The F4000 has a Turion, right? I thought the Turions could run with a 200Mhz FSB.
cpu-z says:

freq: 200MHz
fsb dram: cpu/4
cas: 2.5
ras to cas: 3
ras precharge: 3
tras: 7
trc: 10
dram idle: 16

Woot! There you go! Now try it with the second Gig.

Edit: This is what snorre said about the Ferrari 3200

"1. Run A64 Tweaker to tweak the memory settings.
2. Set MEMCLK Frequency to 200, CAS Latency (Tcl) to 3.0, RAS to CAS Delay (Trcd) to 4, and 2T Timing to Enable (although even more relaxed memory timings will allow for higher CPU overclock with ClockGen).
3. If you've upgraded to Corsair XMS3200 memory you should only set the 2T Timing to Enable."

Anyone care to try? http://www.akiba-pc.com/download.php?view.40
"The ultimate "on the fly" tool for ajusting all memory related settings on A64 platform. As good as it gets..."
So, rami, are you saying that you have to run at Command Rate of 2 to get 200Mhz?
That was with 2GB of ram. As for the settings, I don't think that the command rate needs to be set to 2T in order to run at 200MHz. I think that the ram can handle that, and that is why he says to do it.
Have you benchmarked with the new 200MHz settings? It would be interesting to see the diffrence from default 166MHz to 200MHz.
I put the benchmarks of the new settings in the post with the 166MHz ones on the 1st page so people wouldn't have to go hunting to compare them.
Nice, Just for everyones information,to do this you need PC3200 RAM installed, no telling what it would to with PC2700 RAM that comes with the notebook. Probably would crash right away.

I am confused, isn't this ram DDR400, shouldn't it run at 400MHZ?

I think the 400MHz is the effective speeds from the double data rate (DDR) 200Mhz.

right?

Will it be possible to upgrade to DDR3?

When will DDR3 be available?

For those who can wait, doesn't it make sense to wait on memory upgrade to DDR3?

Thanks.

Just found this by google-ing "DDR3"

Samsung mass producing 512Mbit DDR3 - report

Quick off the blocks

By INQUIRER staff: Tuesday 21 June 2005, 12:05

KOREAN GIANT Samsung says it has begun mass producing 512-megabit DDR3 memory chips.
The company earlier claimed to be first to produce a prototype of a 512Mbit DDR3 memory device, as we reported here.

Back then Samsung said the 1066Mbps chips would be be available early next year. It seems to have ratcheted up its plans.

The memory format is expected to feature in both XBox 360 and Playstation 3, as well as future PC graphics cards.

Reuters today reports that Samsung has put the chippery into mass production and is working on development of a 2.0 gigabit per second GDDR3 chip that will make graphics processing even faster.

The newswire said that the 512-megabit DDR3 chips can be wired up to produce transfer speeds of 6.4 gigabytes per second. The 2.0-gigabit chips could achieve 8.0 gigabyte-per-second speeds, Samsung says.

A spokesman claimed this would make the 2.0-gigabit chips the fastest graphics memory on the planet. ยต

No notebook today runs DDR3 as far as I know. Also DDR1 400MHz or faster is very similar to DDR2 in performance. Latency is lower on DDR1 but MHz is higher in DDR2. In short it's not worth worrying about. As a side note, the Ferrari 4000 with DDR1 333MHz beats the TM 8104 with DDR2 in 3D benchmarks. So what matters really is the GPU when gaming and the amount of memory. Although better memory never hurts performance it will not be a bottle neck in the same way a GPU is. Still it wouldn't feel right running anything else than DDR 400MHz though since the chipset and CPU is officialy optimized for it in AMD Turion 64.

any update for the CORSAIR 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Notebook Memory

i plan on upgrading my memory on the Ferrari 4005
post #35 of 47
Okay i am just wondering this as i recently got a good deal on a 4002, I upgraded my ram to 2gb of OZ pc3200....I have read all the threads on memory oc and clockgen and a64 Tweaker........results are...

1. Flashing to the 3a23 bios is a waste of time, it downgrades your fsb by 9, weather its to help a lil on battery power i dont know, i flashed back to 3a21....either way it didnt help with running at 200fsb with 3200 mem, though i didnt expect it too.....

2. Clockgen is a hit and miss as it oclocks your cpu mhz at the same time as it does the rams fsb, as you increase fsb up goes the mhz, not really the solution i had in mind...

3. The best option though flaky is the a64 tweaker option, the only thing with this was that the proggy for a start doesnt save your selected options so when you reboot with the options set it doesnt load the ones you chose.....Added to this is the main prob i found which is jumping from 166fsb default straight to 200fsb, the system freezes.......NOw at first you would think oh oh, the ram wont handle it, well no this aint true........
IF i first oc to 183fsb and then set and then oc to 200fsb then no problem system runs stable, its the large jump from 166 to 200fsb it doesnt like......
Also when i run at 200fsb in windows i can change the Refresh Rate (Tref) to 200 MHZ 3.9us and i can also change the CPC to 1T and it runs perfect.....Mem speed shows as 10,11,4,4,2.5 in cpuz........
The a64 settings can be changed manually so that at start up you could boot at a possible 200fsb......Unfortunatley i dont think my particular ram will do this as i say it freezes the system, i think i can possibly get it too boot at 183fsb without a freeze though i am still testing this....Others might with diffirent ram might be able too boot into windows at 200fsb.....

I was wondering if anyone else had success with getting there 3200 ram to boot at 200fsb using a64 tweaker and if they did then they might share there success and settings with us .

Cheers Logan

any updates with this and the bios supporting the 400Mhz? I am about to buy some 3200 ram...
NO there is no further bios release for this notebook, but you can easily get your 3200 ram running at default 200fsb.....follow link

Looks okay, one of the reviews mentions an Acer Lappy, so better than good chance it should work, if it dont you can always return it, try doing a search for Crucial ram and Ferrari 4000 see if you can get a match before buying, confirmation is always an ease settler .....

Wrong. I got tired of some of the incorrect info on this site so I had to register to correct you people. Follow this link http://secure2.tx.acer.com/VistaDown...cerSeries.aspx and pick Ferrari 4000 from the dropdowns. You'll find updates for some of the Vista specific tools for the F4000... including a new BIOS. Yes, I said it... a new BIOS... version 3A27.

Enjoy
