iTunes is possessed

iTunes launches itself everytime i boot, and when i close itunes i recieve a message asking if i'm sure, because another application is scripting to itunes(or something of the sort). i've removed all instances of itunes in startup items via msconfig and it still persists. i can't imagine what app could be using itunes as i've installed very few since the fresh install of xp pro. any ideas?

Do they use any IE component, like toolbars etc. ?? Because, who knows? maybe they have one of those toolbars that is launching itunes everytime you boot... just an hypothesis...

Why don't you do this, uninstall Itunes and then re-install making sure that you click a custom install, and make sure it doesn't install anything that auto launches on startup.

isn't there an option to stop the autostart?

i haven't had any trouble with iTunes on any of my windows machines. I guess you must have checked something by accident or something.

exactly, maybe he installed something by mistake that is doing that. Or activated some option, pretty much like when you install the DivX codec, for example, from the original file. The default option is to install the Google toolbar, so you need to change that when you're installing. Just an example...

I know that Konfabulator talks to Itunes on my machine (the Itunes widget maybe )

Try reinstalling it. You won't lose your playlists or libary or anything.

msconfig and uncheck iTunes in startup.. better yet, get XPlay 2 and ditch iTunes. It blows it away.

it still happens, albeit randomly. msconfig is free of itunes related iTems. does xplay interface with ITMS?

Yes, you just have to make sure you don't have your iPod plugged in when you open ITMS, otherwise it'll hijack it. XPlay 2 works basically like a My Computer/Windows Explorer type thing for iPods. It just works a lot better, has better visuals and (knock wood) hasn't given me a problem yet and we have three iPods here.
