9860 will not boot with battery only

My 9860 just developed a problem. When using battery, the computer will not boot normally.

I get the Sager logo screen, then the Windows XP screen, but then next comes garbled scrolling characters then black screen.

I have to hard power down, then I CAN boot into Safe Mode.

No problems booting up with ac adapter power.

Any ideas?

With the AC plugged in and booted then unplug the AC. See how long the battery lasts. If it turns off after a few mintues then the battery is gone or the connection along the way is messed up. I would also remove the battery and put it back in to make sure it's not just loose. If the battery lasts more than 30 mins then let it run all the way down untill automatic shut off and let it recharge at least 3 hours without powering the laptop on. If none of that works it's time to call Tech Support.

Ah HA!!! I found (I think) the solution. 'puter tater, thanks for the input and while a valid and pertinent repsonse, that wasn't the solution.

Remember when Nvidia launched the 77.72 driver on their website? I had installed that driver AND used the modified inf file from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=7379

Now, I don't know if the modified inf has been modified again since when I downloaded it AND while that 77.72 driver w/the inf file worked fine on my 9860; I had never (nor had reason to) tested it w/ battery power only.

I had a notion to uninstall that driver tonight (through control panel) AND run Driver Cleaner Pro. Then installed the 6-28-2005 released 77.70 driver on the Sager Tech Support Driver site http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/n...oductType=9860

Guess what ... no problems booting up with battery power only.

Now isn't that interesting?!?!

I would love to know if anyone else is having problems with Pieter's modified inf file!!

Anyone?

added comment ... I note from the laptopvideo2go site that Pieter won't be back until July 12th, so I wonder who wrote the 77.72 modified inf ... it's obviously defective as it applies to our 9860 Sagers ... at least for me anyway.

The 77.72 + modded inf works great with my 9860.

I find it hard to believe the video driver effects the battery unless the Powermizer section was messed up. I also remember someone saying it messed up there keyboard as well. I used the 77.72 but never tested it on battery. I' now using 80.40

Hey Deuch ... That is REALLY interesting. Sure wish I knew what the difference is between what I did and what you did.

Would you mind pointing me to the exact link as to where (and WHEN) you downloaded the modified inf file?

Thanks!!

The inf file doesn't do anything, just adds an entry for the mobile cards so that the install program recognizes that it's a valid card to install the driver on.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I'm "academically" interested in why then the 77.72 driver FUBAR'd my 9860, but didn't others.

Anyone?

In fact i didn't try with the battery only ... I didn't read carefully your message.

I will try to boot with only my battery and i'll give you my results.

I Have The Same Problem Exactly

I have the exact same problem. I will be downloading the new driver as soon as a I get home. EXACT same problem, same circumstances, downloaded INF from same link as gfotion. What a crazy glitch. I thought I would have to be getting a new battery, didn't even think about my new video drivers... just the fact that battlefield 2 ran right.... something big changed in these drivers..

Thanks, I will be interested in the results ... it seems as if other user(s) are having my same problem.

I talked to Sager and they really discouraged using any drivers other than what they post on their site.
