how do i check whether the fan on the a/c adaptor is running or not ??

lately, my adapter is getting really hot, and i'm not sure whether the fan is kicking in or not

uh

Well, if you can't tell, you just may have the power brick that has no fan - a lot of them don't. I say this because the model with the fan (I have two, one with and one without) is quite obvious about kicking in - you can hear it clearly.

I questioned Sager on this for my 8886, they said that unless your using more then 90 watts the fan in the adaptor won't go on. Mine's never gone on.

well i'm damn sure i have the adapter with the fan in it,
coz its the one without any vents apart from a circular one opposite to where the power cord plugs in.

i'm more likely to believe the 90 watt thingy, though again its strange that the adapter would get so hot and not reach the 90 watts (i game a lot)

I bought 2 EDAC adapters with my laptop, and the fans have NEVER come on. They work fine, but get HOT, hot, HOT, hot, HOT, particularly when I'm gaming. I swear one fine day I'll be burning a hole in the carpet. Someone in a thread waaay back modified his so the fan is always on. Didn't give us pictures on how he did it unfortunately.

Weird.

My EDAC power brick uses the fan quite often. Like I said, you can hear it.

edit: and it doesn't ever get very hot

Yah, mine has a fan, there are vents at each end and when the fan runs, you can hear it, not like a roar or anything, but you can defintely tell there is a fan running. It gets warm to the touch, but never so you can't hold it in your bare hand.
