VIVA! Atheros WIFI. DOWN The With Intel 2915 Hunk of Junk - Page 7

Little update on my cards. Both are working great in my xps2s. With my Belkin Pre-N Router best i can connect with is 54mps (to be expected). But i get 54mps about 120 yards away from my house down to the dock by the lake. On my Dlink Gamerouter I get 108mps connection everywhere in the house but it demminishes quickly as i go outside. I will post IXA Chariot charts later with througput test etc. I have been to busy latley to do official throughput testing etc.

Today I was freelancing at a place in the city and after I got 'connected' I eventually went to 12mbps, from 54 and then I just sorta lost connection. It didn't say I had but nothing would work. It was frustrating for sure. I'm currently trying to find places that can sell the 5005 chip and not have to get it through ebay. Although it looks like it might be the best option.

maxrule, did you have the intel or the broadcom chip before, or none at all?

Tellerve

Yeah i replaced both my Intel 2915s with two gigabyte atheros cards. I might be selling one of these gigabyte cards soon. Ill let everyone know. I am dedicating one of my XPS2s to a desktop and it will not be mobile anymore and will have it hooked up via gigabit wire.

LOL as to be expected I also got a 700m and it came with a CRAPTEL 2200 card. Well this POS has the SAME EXACT PROBLEM as the the 2915 that I had in my XPS 2. I guess I will buying another Atheros based chip 5005 or higher!

DOWN WITH CRAPTEL!

ok so i heard mentioned that this was compatible with netstumbler

so anyways with these programs netstumbler/airopeek/whatever

is the only point to get into wireless networks that you dont have the key for? it seems like this software isnt compatible with the intel card but it is with the gigabit one... does this software have any other uses?

also i really dont have problems with my intel connection... i guess if i do in the future i will happily upgrade but no reason to yet

My dads company bought about 18 of them, and they work great with a Dlink 624 108Mbit router!!

Is Atheros the only company making these "better" card? I saw a post higher up saying that Broadcom made them. Just wondering if they sell those, cuz my friend's dad works @ Broadcom (discounts pelase)

Mine arrived today. I'll test it soon and let you know how it is.

The problem I had with the 2200 is that I couldn't game with it; it would always drop the connection at some point, and the WAP is 2 feet away from it! POS!

Hey, have you Intel wireless users tried installing the new drivers for them? Here's a Dell drive for the i9300 / Intel 2200bg dated July 6th, 2005:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=134232

From the page, it says:

Fixes and Enhancements

Release Highlights:
*Roaming enhancements
*Reported Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) Stabilization
*Manual provision for EAP-FAST Protected Access Credentials (PAC)
*Localization corrections

I have and they have made no difference. Still the same issues.

So far, so good! I played for about an hour and a half on the LAN tonight via WiFi without a hitch!

Thanks for this thread!

Please tell me and the rest of the people in this thread what you are contributing to subject matter at hand.

Claiming that:

is insulting to say the least to folks who know that they have an issue with the CRAPTEL 2915.

If I'm not mistaken I think there have been quite a few here who have solved their connectivity issues by information found here.

So what is your point?

Does anyone know if the GN WIAG02 will fit an Asus Z70v?

What do you have in it now? Mini PCI is standard. The only issue may be the reach of your antenna wires.
