I still don't understand what makes the Atheros a good card or not? Is this an Atheros card? Does it do super A and super G? What exactly are we supposed to look for in a good card that will beat the shit out of my Intel 2915, that hasn't even arrived yet? Where are you guys purchasing these cards as well? Any help would be very appreciated.

Atheros Card?

It's mainly the chipset.

I bought mine on eBay. I replaced my 2200 which was having really bad signal loss problems. I haven't had a single issue with the Atheros based card. (It's a Gigabyte GN-WIAG02)

Great Thread with a ton of Info. I agree the Craptel WiFi Mini PCI cards suck and perform like **** I had the Atheros card in my Tosh m35x S149 and never had one problem with it. I have Netgear WGU624 and I was shocked when the laptop auto connected at 108m with no problems. I read this thread and have followed it from the beginning. I searched Ebay and bought Atheros Mini PCI what tuned out to be a local seller. I bought the 5004G on Ebay and installed it in my i9300 and runs like a champ, No Drops , No Loss in Speed , Ect Ect The only difference between the 5004g and the 5005g is I believe a 2 chip solution vs a Single chip solution. You can look it all up on Atheros web Site for additional info

Here is the Link for both of the Mini PCI Athoros WiFi Solutions. I highly recommend them for a cheap but very effective upgrade.

Hi I need some help because i do have the atheros card which works really good however the drivers for it do not. I keep getting the Blue screen of death. When i install them it says they are not digitally signed and that can cause system unstability. So i was wondering if there are any signed atheros drivers out there??? I have found one on windows update and its like for a different atheros card and ots like version 3 for the file which does not work for my Card

My drivers were not signed (for my dads Gigabyte 108Mbit WiFi) and they worked fine.

Each with the same issues...ITS THE DAMN CARD
Perhaps your wireless card is defective??? get an exchange for it. I honestly dont see what all the fuss is, are you using cable??? Your cable provider will surely have a list of all the routers that are compatible with your cable, this could be the problem too perhaps?? not using a compatibile router?? have you tried exchanging your wireless card with DELL??

I have had no problems whatsoever with my intel 2915 wireless card.

Well i just reinstalled my windows with the Atheros Drivers and it seems to be working really good My D-LINK 624 has been working really good!!!!!!! Better than the netgear router i had which kept rebooting and cutting out on me.

Do these antheros cards support mac address changing without 3rd party software like a-mac/smac

Hmm I didn't even know that was possible..
When i had my cl56 and had the drivers that came on the driver disc i had the option of changing the mac address under the advsnced tab. Now i got my sony baby but the only way to change mac addresses is with smac/a-mac. Just be another reason to get it if it does suppoert mac address changing. It would be really handy at school where mac addresses are logged when using the wifi/lan ports
post #176 of 444
The official Atheros utitily/driver doesn't allow MAC changing.

Is Atheros compatible with Sager 3880? I got a 2915abg and it responds extremely slow sometimes and at other times the connection drops to 1 mbps. I have to keep on switching channels all the time to make it stay at 11 mbps. Hence, i am on a 802.11b router. I got the Zyxel 330W router but it is experiencing dropping connections as well when i use it. SO i end up going back to the MN-500.
i dont think you can change the mac address as it is a BIA (Burnt In Address - done at the time of manufacturing on the card hardware itself), but it can be spoofed

Its a standard minipci card like the 2915, it should work fine.

I have resorted to using a Toshiba WiFi MiniPCI, which is only 11Mbit because my Intel 2200 is soo crap. It loses signal for no reason (where the Toshiba has Excellent signal), and takes AGES to connect, not to mention 1Mbit speeds (I have 3mbit cable, so its important). The 11Mbit card is faster.
