Is the Atheros AR5006XS the gigabyte GN-WI01HT? Could I use these drivers even if it's a straight atheros AR5006XS...meaning not gigabyte branded?

I have the d link gaming wireless router and the full 108MB/s would be nice.

I retract this statement. It is a POS. I couldnt figure out why I was getting lag in games even thought I had 100 to 200 fps but my ping was nice and steady. I finally tried hooking it up directly to the routher with the ethernet and BAM no more multiplayer stutters. Will the Atheros card fix this issue?

Gaming is where my Intel card fell down, lots of random lag spikes, with the Atheros none of that

Which card did you buy exactly? Are you sure the antenna wires are connected tightly?

thanks for blasting replyes i'm using atheros drivers 4.1.2.71 before i tried gigabytes and couple of others, my utilitye says that i can see networks with good signal but never establish connection. says it's not associated. only if i put my router on the table with laptop it catchs the signal.
i'll try installing new drivers though...

i bought Gigabyte GN-WIAG02 wireless card with atheros AR5005GS chipset

my first though was about wires so i tried all combinations and checked couple of times... i had prism minipci wireless before.

still sounds like an issue with the antenas to me. Are you sure you haven't damaged the pin inside them?
ook and how do i check if pins inside are demaged?
i took a pic of pins looks alright.

also i tried to start it without any wires connected. it doesn't see any networks, but if you put router close to notebook it can pick up a network...

while with wires attached, utility can see maybe 10-15 networks with signal range from 15-100% but can't connect to anything (my other network cards can connect from the same spot with no problems)
very weird...

Connectors look ok, perhaps start again by removing all old drivers from any wireless cards as well as their config utilities. Then try installing the Atheros driver only without the config utility and see if MS zero config works.
My guess is that your Atheros card is picking up a neighbor's system.
It's weaker than yours, but it's labled "default" and it's listed first in the connection priority list.

i uninstalled all drivers all my ex wifi cards again, cleaned registry then installed new drivers for atheros but.. nothing changed =( rit now i'm using internet with my old microsoft usb card and my gigabyte one can't even connect for a second :-S what else can it be? is card just faulty? or is it a software issue?
Its hard to say whether its software or hardware at this point, trying a live linux CD or Windows re-install should confirm whether its a software problem or not

ok i figured it all out. this is the solution that helped me to fix my card after i did like it says everything started to work just fine
maybe will be usefull for others too:

Toshibaґs own cards have a special firmware feature for switching off the card through a non-standard way,
To make the card work in a Toshiba manufactured after the year 2003, like the A10, A20, A30, P10, P20, 1130, 2430 ect. there is a modification required:
a small piece of tape is put on one of the interface connector pins to prevent the notebook from switching off the card. SEE THE ATTACHED PICTURE. >>> start counting from PIN number 1 (the single on the side of the card’s socket break) and cover PIN number 7 with tape. That’s it!

SIMILAR PROCEDURE WITH ACER: only compatible with ACER TRAVELMATE 240 with minor modification to the card (bit of tape on pin 13, as launch manager does not recognise the card.

also works for medion sim2000.
