tellerve: The Intel card is really, really hot... personally, my connections are fine, its just that it heats the bottom (and top) of my Z71v, to the point where its uncomfortable to keep my hand there. Its funny because the right side of the notebook (where the processor is) is almost completely cool, and the middle (where the GPU is) is only slightly warm.

So does this fix the heat?

EDIT: LOL, i just ordered one from that ebay link.. I hope it works good for 60 bucks..

You have a funny way of thinking it works good when it disconnects a lot?????

It has been a NIGHT and DAY experience for me. It's working F*&^ing awesome.

I am using the 2200bg and I have no issue, I did not know the other intel was so problematic.

That's kinda what I'd like to know As I'm thinking you're explaining exactly what is happening to my notebook. The middle bottom gets really hot, but the sides where the rest of the components are doesn't. So I'm really thinking the intel card is the problem. While my wireless isn't atrocious, it is annoying, and if I could knock out this heat as well as get solid wireless, well...it'd be worth it.

I have a feeling it's not the intel card. When it gets hot, turn off the computer, remove the minipci cover and touch the card. If it's warm to the touch, then it's probably not the card. My 2200BG on my 9200 was never hot enough to bother me. Could it be a design issue on the laptop?

FWIW, the Dell (Broadcom) TrueMobile b/g 1350/1370 & a/b/g 1450/1470 work flawlessly on my systems with just about every WiFi hub/access point/router that I've connected to.

I haven't had a problem with the 2915 for general web surfing, but a lot of the time files I download are corrupt and playing Battlefield 2 with the 2915 is next to impossible (lag, wierd speed problems, etc).

I've ordered one of these cards off Ebay, so hopefully it will fix my problems.

Yeah, I was going to also mention this. The 1450 has been working without any problems. TrueMobile is the one to get.

How's that NSS working out for you mich43L?

I'm still afraid to install it I'm afraid that it's simply bloatware or it'll mess up my settings - it's a 50Mb zipped file, there has to be something on there that's significantly changes the system. I'll create a restore point in windows before installing it so I can go back if I don't like it. One problem in particular NSS mighit solve: when I unplug and reinsert a usb device the system doesn't regcongize it again sometimes and I have to run "scan for hardware changes" in the device manager for the mouse to work again.

I see a lot of fanboi type screaming that this card is better, faster, lower power, etc.

How do you know?

I mean, obviously your connections have improved, great. That's the end result and that's perfect.

But saying it uses less power -- how do you know? I've seen squat on the power consumption of the 2915 versus the new Atheros chipset. Provide some numbers to back up your power claims. I'm looking for a replacement for my 9200, not my XPS G2. Power consumption on the G2 is a non-issue, the video card is the juice freak, not the wan card.

Try enabling the Intel Throughput Enhancement:

Consider enabling the Intel Throughput Enhancement setting when operating in an environment where equal access by all clients is not necessary and higher throughput on uploads is desired. Streaming video, uploading large files, and sharing content are examples of applications that would benefit from using the Intel Throughput Enhancement.
Also, help maximize your connectivity potential with Cablenut Adjuster:

If you experience problems while on battery power only, see:

I was using the Troughput Enhancement (I've tried it both ways, on and off). Doesn't matter for me, it still has problems.

The NSS install unzips multilanguage files & all dll/inf files into a temp folder; it installs a maximum of 2MB worth of files, and only those that your OS/service pack level requires.

Its definitely the wireless card. There's literally nothing else in that corner, and if I turn the device off, it cools down in a few minutes. It doesn't seem to be able to _stay_ that hot, which is why it'll cool down by the time I remove the cover. Either way, there's literally nothing there that could possibly generate that heat. The warmth is very localized... it doesn't extend past the area, so its definitely from the card.

Well technically, the card is better as most people who have ordered it have noticed less dropped connections (and I've had my fair share of Wlancard chipsets, but never in minipci form). Results may vary?
The card is technically also faster when used with the Turbo mode in some routers, but this is basically a cheap trick that uses channel 6 and whatever channel you're on to double throughput.
And power? I have no idea. I'll be glad to test this when I get mine .

I know that I felt the underside of a friend's acer 8104 and it was amazing the difference in the heat between mine and his. Both are running 2gigs of ram, 2ghz chips, and a/b/g wireless cards, but I don't believe the acer comes with intel.

In any case, my laptop's center section, the wireless card/ram area gets really warm. I just was testing it and took off the cover to see that the wireless card was warm to the touch, although the ram was a bit as well. But if this is something that could be fixed with another card it would be nice to get. I've had it on my lap at night in the bed and my legs get a bit uncomfortably warm from that heat.

The Atheros 5005GS based card....is one chip.....uses less power hence produces less heat...blah blah blah........and works marvolous.
