Dell i9300 video card 64MB Radeon X300 to 256MB nVIDIA GeForce Go 6800

Thread Starter
Hello! I just recently found/joint this great forum.

By mistake I've put this message to a wrong forum yesterday and could not revoke it by myself - the moderator closed that thread per my request and advised to repeat it here. So here we go - this is the most appropriate place for such questions I hope. BTW thanks for all who has reacted to my post.

I'm sorry if my questions have been answered here but I could not find them. I guess answers might be useful for other people also.

I recently purchased Dell Inspiron 9300 with basic video card - 64MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300 and I do not like the image quality at all. So I want to upgrade the video card to the better one. 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon or
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 (hoping that the quality would be much better). I am thinking about G6800 if it is not very expensive.

I've tried to find the cards on the Dell website and other places on the Internet but I could not. It seems to me now that there is only one way (most expensive) to upgrade - call Dell. But I'd like to explore my options before I call them.

Could you please let me know how to do such upgrade the most efficient way (cost, time)? What about warranty? I have Complete Care for 3 years.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

If you're still within 21 days return period, it might be better to return your current one and order a new one.

I'm not sure what Dell will say, but I bet it will be pricey. I'm not sure if it will increase image quality but you will be able to play games at much higher settings.

Image quality doesn't have anything to do with your video card. But gaming has everything to do with the vid card.

I ended up doing the return thing because of the 7/1 35% off coupon, but I did get a call from Dell saying that the 6800 Go that I wanted (before I decided just to do the return) was finally in stock. The part number is W5373 and this it the number of the parts department I dealt with 800-357-3355. I think it was about $320 or so... The return was fairly painless, so I'd opt for that option since it will cost you a lot less. They offered to credit me $68 for my X300 128MB which isn't enough to make the $320 expense enough...
