Just got a HP L2005CU! Can I upgrade to XP 64 bit?

I went to Microsoft's site for upgrading to Windows XP 64 bit. They said OEM's will have their own site for allowing to exchange your XP license for a XP 64 license, free. Microsoft has a place to make that happen too but my COA and product ID are not in the same format that Microsoft wants.
Anyone know if any of the HP 64 bit laptops ship with an OS that they will allow to be upgraded? I guess the OEM must allow it.
Thanks!

no idea, but what i do know is that there is a severe lack of 64 bit drivers for Windows XP 64x (you only get it free if you have xp pro)... I might wait for all the drivers to come out or just wait for longhorn

From what I could tell today, HP only supports this program for their "Work Stations". I wrote to them anyway just to make sure. I will post if there is a way to do it.
I agree that it may be a bit soon to go without a hitch, but I'd like to try. The "Windows x64 Technology Advancement Program" which allows a license swap is only good until July 31st, then you have to purchase a copy.

no, you do not qualify for the microsoft "trade-in" program of xppro > x64. on notebook sit's honestly not a very good idea anyway, since you will run into all kinds of nutty driver issues (some notebooks don't even have nic drivers that work under x64. as of this moment think of it as an expermantial busness OS. driver support is just not there atm for just about anything.

i got a l2005cu last friday and did a fresh install of x64 on it. only drivers not included in xp are modem, sound, wlan, media card reader, bluetooth and video....you can download the video driver from ati. other drivers i have not been able to find.

A couple days ago, I received a response back from Microsoft. MilieanHPS is correct; laptops do not qualify for the trade in program.
Right now desktop support for x64 is far greater than for notebooks. Like OpiumPoppy found out... 75% of the drivers needed for the notebook components are not available yet.
Is x64 out in full retail yet? I am thinking (hoping) that once that happens notebooks will be better supported.
