This is not a driver issueA little more information for you all. I recieved my brand new xps2 approx 2 weeks ago. As part of my normal procedures with a new computer, I benchmark. 3dmark03 crashed the very first time on the 1st day of ownership. I thought this must be a software issue, as 3dmark05 runs flawllessly. Over the next few days, the reboots started happening randomly during gaming. Some games it was quite frequently, others it was very infrequently. I decided to fresh install windows using nothing but the chipset drivers and video drivers. After installation, I installed 3dmark03 (as this program would crash on the nature test 8 out of 10 times). Very first try, the computer rebooted. So at this point, I concluded this was hardware related and tried swapping the memory for known good pieces. Still rebooted with new memory. I did not believe this to be a motherboard issue, as it never reboots unless under severe video stress. So convinced it was a video card, I contacted Dell. My call was less than 10 mins, and after discussing all my testing the tech agreed about the video card. The next day a tech came out and replaced the card (took less than an hour). I immediately started up 3dmark03, and BINGO no more reboots. Ive logged extensive time in games and benchmarks since the replacement, and have not experienced one reboot since. As a side note, the revision# of the old vid card was AO (1st revision) and the new one was revision# X02. Thats a ton of revisions for what its worth.
