I also had the same problem, today a dell engineer has just changed my a00 card for an a01 card.

Tonight i will be testing it.

Well, finally got around to calling Dell about my 6800U reboot issue. Surprisingly, things went well with the non-native english speaker. With a total call time of 27:34 I have a new card coming to me within 2 business days. Hopefully, I get one that works the first time around and I don't have to worry about it again.

Guess it's time to order the AS5 so that I can apply while everythings already open, eh?

Sounds like your doing better than me. I'm still having the reboot issues after the replacement.

Do you have to send back the old card to Dell?

Yes, you do have to send the card back. If a tech does the install they send it back for you. I believe this is the case will all replacement parts under warranty.

Flow is right. They do want the card back, so if it's been overclocked, you may wanna set it back to normal (which I almost forgot to do, had to take the laptop apart a second time to reflash the original back to original).

On a side note, while I'm not done testing yet, this card is performing better. While the case was open, I used AS5 on the CPU and GPU. CPU temps are down by about 2C, while GPU at idle is down 2C, but it's down nearly 15C under load. I haven't been able to get the card over 80C since replacement and it usually ran 95C during a 3DMark05 run. Now its high temp (@512C1300) is 78C. I did have one reboot at 525C1300, but I scaled it back and haven't rebooted yet. I guess the true test will be playing FEAR for a while to see if I can get it to crash.

when you guys say you have a bad video card, is this because of multiple reboots over time while playing games? or are you saying, your computer should NEVER reboot and if it does just once, it's a bad card? I was playing HL2 recently and when I clicked on a server to join it kind of hesitated for a second, then flashed to a white screen and then immediately into reboot. Am I victim?

That’s a trick question, of course I would prefer a system that never had a random reboot. Some people are saying that the reboots are cased by a bad video card and others say it’s driver related. At this point, I’m not sure what to believe, it may be a combination of the two. If I use the Dell 72.01 drivers, I have absolutely no reboot issues. As soon as I try anything higher, I get frequent random reboots while gaming. Replacing the video card made no difference for me.

As of yet, I haven't had a problem with rebooting with the new card. The only time I did was when I ran 3DMark05 cranked to 1920x1200 with almost all the settings maxed out. I don't know how far it made it through the test because I forgot I had started it and went to cook dinner. I came back and it had rebooted. I haven't had time yet to do any game testing as the course I'm currently taking is rather physically demanding and all I wanna do when I get home is relax and go to bed. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some real testing this coming weekend, but we'll see.

It's possible, but I don't think one time necessarily justifies replacing the card. Electronics are finicky things and one glitch isn't the end of the world. Most of the people here that replaced their cards seemed to be having consistent issues in certain situations. It could possibly be a driver issue that's not being resolved as Flow commented with his 72.01's working fine. I'm running the XTreme G 81.95's right now, but like I said, without proper testing I can't say. I did earlier report far lower temps and I'd like to see that continue as well.

I'll try to update after I get some real test time in however.

I am not playing games that often however I am currently having an issue that originally first became apparent when I was opening a Remote Desktop session onto my Main computer and the 9300 made a very loud beep and just shut down. I had to push the button to start it back up. Since then it is kind of intermittent as to when it will futz up on me. Just the other night I was on someone's Myspace page with the usual requirement of way too many flashing graphics and my 9300 beeped and died again.

This seems to happen at random times, such as the two previous examples or I am just sitting there surfing the internet other than this problem I have had not had any issues playing Prince of Persia, even played around on FEAR for about 30 min without an issue.

Do you think it could be the overheating issue or something different? To me it sounds like it could possibly be an occurrence of overheating but then again I am new to laptops haha

4 months of dell hell and now they are saying its my external devices that are causing the computer to restart. "We need to isolate the problem, so i would like to you not us any external devices with your computer." I bought a computer that should be the best thing since sliced bread and now i have to use the touch pad just because my "faulty games" that are restarting my GAMING machine. The tech said i would have to send it to a depot if it was still having problems. Thats just what i want to do, send my PC away for 7 days. Damnit i just want it to work like it should. And the thing that pisses me off the most, he said hes never heard of this problem ever. The last tech i had said "its a known issue", this tech said the other guy didnt know what he was talking about. Im going to kill them all.

Im from the UK, will they still be able to replace my card, or will it be more difficult ?

my XPS Gen2 always reboots on cs_assault, and sometimes on cs_office.

I just updated my bios to AO5 (from AO1) and grabed the latest laptop2go drivers.. problem still persists, any insight?

i'm going to try the latest drivers from dell for the 6800 ultra .. if problem STILL persists, i'll have to conclude it's not driver related (unfortunately .. i was hoping for an easy fix)
