Should I get x300 128MB or x600 64MB ?

I need to buy a notebook for a friend who doesn't know about this stuff. He said we won't be playing alot, but still will be playing.

So should I get the Inspiron 6000 with X300@128MB or the HP NX8220 with the X600@64MB ? What one will perfomr better overall ?

Both are with 1GB RAM

I assume the case of the HP is much better than those shitty dell plastics...at least MY case sucks (9100)

You could get an Inspiron 9300 with an Nvidia 6800 256 MB card for less than the HP price. use the 35% coupon, then buy an external USB TV tuner, and you'll have a much better laptop, especially if you're going to be doing gaming...

The 9300 is out of question, since it's a 17"

oh ok. when i checked on HPShopping.com or something like that, their 8220 had an x600 card with 128 megs. where is the one with 64 megs you're seeing?

I can get it trough my employer, I don't think it's on the official hp store. The price for both systems is the same.

I'd get the HP anytime, but the only this is the 64MB...I really thing that aint enough nowdays

i think so too, but the x300's are so weak. Maybe shop around a bit more in search of an x600 or Nvidia 6600 ....

why not a X600 128MB?

IS the Latitude D810 any good ? The chassis looks somewhat plastic.

The x600 will deliver casual performance, but don't expect it to be playing any graphics intensive games are medium settings... such as BF2, HL2, and so on. You'll really have to skimp on graphics.

Are you sure you want to go with a Dell? One of the biggest flaws in Dell's lineup is that there's no in-between notebooks, so you're stuck with either the x300/600 or the GeForce 6800. Underpowered or overpowered. If you're really stuck on Dell, I'd say go with the x600--the 6800 Ultras that they put in the 9300 and XPS2 are massive heat generators, and both notebooks are running on the hot and heavy side.

If you're willing to look at alternatives, Acer, Asus, and Sager all offer quality notebooks. I have the Z71v with the GeForce Go 6600, but they're also releasing the Z70A refresh with the Radeon X700 card, which is the equivalent of the 6600. Definitely stay away from Dell if you're looking for a portable gaming notebook...

The x600 64meg should still be faster as long as it isn't crippled by having a 64-bit memory bus. If the x600 does have a 128-bit memory bus it will be around 25% faster at stock clocks. If it doesn't it will be the same speed as the X300.

The Latitude line is built stronger than the Inspiron line. If you go with a Dell, I would suggest the d810 because you need the other card. However, if your friend will not care about playing on the highest levels and all that, the 6000 will be fine. The new systems are sturdy, unlike many of the old systems.

Mine's not shitty, in fact it's better quality and built than HPs now. (6000)

They aren't that weak, they can run many games fine.

But then with the 6800 you can't really compare battery life with an x300

If there is a question, then either the X300 or X600 would satisfy. A serious gamer would already know what to get (a 9800 or similar). Of the two options posed, I would go with the i6000 with 128MB X300. The X300 is a similar card to the X600, but generates less heat, not only because it is running at a slightly slower clock speed, but is manufactured with a 0.11 micron chip rather than a 0.13 micron. Both the X300 and the X600 are close cousins to the old 9600/9700 mobile gpu.

And odds are you could overclock the x300 to x600 speeds

Ok, thanks to all of you...I guess I'll go with the Inspiron 6000 then, I doubt the guy is playing any heavy 3D games anyway.

With a 9cell and a 6cell battery , I won't be having many battery life worries

I wouldnt buy an HP if my life depended on it. My dad got a Pavilion, and within 1 yr he had it fry 2 times. Both were bad mobo's. What are the chances. I have credit with HP that will never be used due to that reason......That and my dell's whooop an HP. JMHO backed up by facts.

Many users of the D810 report that this chassis runs very hot as well as several reviews. This is unacceptable for a chassis with two fans and a centrino platform and has discouraged me from purchasing one.
