I have a linksys wireless router, but i just got vontage (phone service) and they gave me a linksys router w/ phone jacks to use. I still need my wireless router, so I just ran a cable from my wireless to my new phone router, but how do i get into the option of the new router, b/c I try using the 192.168.x.x thing but all i get is website not found, but i can get into my wireless one just fine. (192.168.x.x are diff. for each router)

And do I need to go thru the new phone router wireless one, or doesnt it mater.

Thanks

I believe you can just plug in directly to the router you want to configure and then type in http://192.168.0.1 and then it'll go into the router setting of THAT router you are plugged into. Like if you are plugged into the new router, then you can change settings of the new router. Then if you moved the plug to the old wireless router, then you will be able to change the wireless router's settings. Unless someone else comes with the solution, then I'll be more than glad to learn about it.

*EDITED* Sorry, http://192.168.0.1 is for most routers, linksys uses http://192.168.1.1 instead.

I'm not so sure that's possible... I know you can do it with a Hub, but a router operates differently. You might just want to try different combinations, but I'm not so sure it'll work. Why can't you just use your old Linksys router? If you have DSL, just run an ethernet cable from the DSL modem to your old router... just as easy.

To do this you will need to know the IP address of the Vonage router. For this example, I am going to assume the vonage router's ip is 192.168.0.1. Change it to whatever your ip is.

All configuration changes will be made to the wireless router.

Log into the wireless router. Under the WAN IP serction mark the option "specify an ip address". Set the ip address to something like 192.168.0.10 so it is on the same network as the vonage router. Subnet: 255.255.255.0. Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (ip of vonage router). Enter dns addresses.

Now under LAN IP settings, enter something like 192.168.1.1 with a gateway of 255.255.255.0. Your DHCP subnet will be 192.168.1.0/24. Run a cable from one of the ethernet ports on the VOnage router to the WAN port on the wireless router.

That should do it.
