Doesn't Hypersonic have to do their own repairs since Sager stated painting the machine voids their warranty (since it has to be taken apart)? Not sure where I read that, it may have been here on these forums somewhere... It was one of the reasons I stopped looking at them.

Painting does not void the warranty if Sager assembles the notebook, how ever they will only assemble notebooks from resellers where painting quality can be assured... if you will note a while back we had painted systems that still were covered under the Sager warranty.

I am now Idling at 46-48 with the new firmware. Before I was 42-43. Overall for everything from games to normal apps my temps have risen about 5 degrees but thats ok. Even when I was at 59-60 with the heavy load now the fans kick to higher revs above 60 so I do not get to 65.. Counterstrike Source has me going at about 63. All in all a good firmware update. The processor has a critial of 70 I think, so I am within limits. or was it 80? No more chipring fan startup for me and less dust buildup with the fans on high with the old firmware as well.

If down the line I want to revert back, I got the 1.00.S3 firmware from Sager yesterday as well, which they were happy to provide. If any of you have a website or hosting service I can put it up.

Please check the 1st post for the updated BIOS files

This BIOS should only be used if you have the new H8 fan firmware
Sager's newly design BIOS allows you to set the "Normal" fan mode to 2 different settings.

Automatic = The fans cycle off when the notebook reaches 45 degrees and then cycle back on at 60 degrees.

Continuios = The fans will stay on normal even if the temperature of the notebook goes below 45 degrees.

Thes new options can be found on the advanced tab in the BIOS.

In order to install the BIOS you will need to download WinPhlash and the new BIOS(R105B.WPH). Follow the instructions in WinPhlash to install your new BIOS and back up your old one.

AWSOME update!!!

my fans do not turn off even if the temp drops below 45C! they spin at low rpms and are very quiet. my idle temp right now is 42C running off the battery.

the bios update will have a setting in the advanced field for fan control. it has 2 options of continous and automatic. it is pre-set to continous mode when you flash it so you don't have to mess with any settings unless you want the fans to turn off at 45C, then set it to automatic mode.

just make sure you instal the fan firmware upgrade first, and then the bios upgrade second because i don't know what the concenquences would be if you flashed the bios before you flashed the fan firmware.

I bow down to the greatness of Sager.

Updated and works good.. On a Side note.. the CPU fan still turn off if you go from High speed mode back to Normal btw.. and turn on again at 60 but then wont shut off again unless you go to High Mode and back to Normal.> The GPU fan isn't effected at all. and runs all the time.

The fans have never bothered me, I also Idol at about 41C so I think that I'll pass on this revision...

Just a reminder of the defaults for the new BIOS
1. It will set the default to RAID. So if you are using ATA you will need to hit F2 and change that to ATA when it reboots.
2. It will set the Sager OEM Splash Screen to on.
3. Sets Brightness to MAX.
4. Sets Volume to MAX.

I'm sure there are others but those are the ones that come to mind.

This is the revision you want, Razortec. It maintains the always on fan speed for idling at 41 (set in BIOS) and adds extra cooling for gaming (via Fn-F2).

i like the fact the fans stay on and do not wait untill you peak to 60 again to restart.

For all the people who have installed the 2nd update: when you say "continuous", do you mean quieter fans like after the first update or loud fans like before the update?

Quieter like the first update and it won't turn off the fan when it reaches under 45.

I doubt you can idle with this firmware at the QUiet mode at 41 unless your in a very very cold room. The Fans arent going very high for it to get that low.. the lowest ive gotten with my house having a 26 c temp is 45-44. I bet I could get into the 39-40 range if i turned on Full speed mode

Can anyone make the fan firmware into a bootable CD image? I remember this was done for the last firmware update. I don't have a floppy and am not sure how to go about making my own bootable CD.

Thank you.

That would be interesting but before I got my 9860 I was using my desktop B52Bomber which has 9 fans on it which produced about 36DBA of sound "hence the name," so the little noise that is coming from my 9860 is nothing by comparison but as long as it is keeping cool I'm not worried....

people who wants to upgrade the bios, use the win wattever program, its a 32-bit executable, that install the bios running windows then restarts the computer =D
