BTW... My idle temp is 41C
How (where is) can I revert to the original H8 firmware?

My 9860 idles and always has idled at over 60 degrees. It has the X800 which I think is the culpret. I also wonder if the temperature sensor simply reads high, but it does kick out a lot of heat. From cold, by the time Windows boots up (even after suspend) mobmeter shows over 60 degrees.

Anyway, after the firmware upgrade the fan speed is constanly varying and is very irritating. Before the H8 upgrade it at least idled at a constant low to medium speed.

Any idea what your 9860 has or doesn't have that lets it idle 20 degrees below mine?

Thanks!

do you have any programs running in the background that peg the cpu or something? you should not be seeing temps above 60 unless the system is under load. you can check this with task manager.

Why would I need to have told you that? A. I had no idea you weren't running a RAID config; and B. I have mine in a RAID config so I didn't have to change anything in BIOS, "don't do it if you can't figure things out on your own" is the advice you should be giving in that post. Anytime you flash your BIOS, you should ALWAYS go into it before starting back up and making sure all settings are correct. That's a given.

I stumbled upon this thread and I'm glad I did! I have a 9860 that still was using the old 1.00.03 BIOS with the fans running at normal/default speed. I updated to the 1.00.04 BIOS, then upgraded the fan firmware to H8 ver. S8 and enjoyed watching the fan cycle OFF/HIGH/LOW/OFF/etc. as the temperatures went up and down a couple of times. I then upgraded to the 1.00.05 BIOS and now the fans at LOW with the Continuous option is great! I can really tell the difference. Using MobileMeter before all the upgrades my system would idle at 37.0c on my iCurve laptop stand and now it idles at 39.0c with the fan on Continuous. Good job Sager/PCTorque and thanks for the posts everyone.
