The question is ... Who has the hard drive kit in the US? I can't seem to find anyone. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that finding a bare one isn't gonna happen, so i'd like to just find one that has a 100gig 5400rpm installed...

Another question around this... Has anyone tried swapping the slot-load DVD from a Ferrari 4000 for the extended battery? As it's the same case as the 8100, anyone know if the media bay works in the same way?

thats one of the reasons i chose 8104 over f4000, i couldn't find any modular stuff available for the ferrari.
maybe it'll come out later....?

The media bay hard drive kit is not available in the US according to Acer. It is only available in Europe and there is no guarentee that one from Europe will work in the US version of the 8100.

I was on the phone with Acer pre-sales in the UK and asked about the media bay battery in a Ferrari 4000. The person I spoke with advised "it should work, and there wouldn't be any risk of damage to the system". If I can get that in writing, I'll be buying one ASAP! I'd guess this may provide 6 hours life on the Ferrari 4005.

german website looks like it has the 100GB 5400rpm mediabay drive for tm8104 (part number LC.HDD03.006) and seems willing to ship internationally.

can anyone who can read german (or machine translated german) confirm this and figure out what their return policy is etc?

I'm using a Media Bay IDE case made by IBM (for a Thinkpad T40) and it fits/works properly
doesn't match the looks of my F4005, but it works...

so the Media Bay IDE by IBM fits and your Ferrari 4000 and provides extra battery life? Where did you get it and how much was it?

I think I was misunderstood...
I'm using an IDE Ultra Bay case... allows me to slide in a IDE device, well, a hard drive is all I can fit in that, into my Acer, and access it w/o having to install anything else...

No Hard Drive will give me any more battery life...
