Undervolting

Thread Starter
I know that overclocking the CPU shortens the life of the chip. What about undervolting??? Does anyone know if the life of the CPU is effected in anyway?? I mean it makes sence that if you undervolt something that it's lifetime will be effect since it won't have as much energy to do its job. I mean if you undervolt your alarm clock it will run slower, and cause damage to the resisters(be it small damage). Does the same thing happen with the CPU??? My computer doesn't get very hot as is, but cooler is better... and having extra batterly life is also a plus but at the expense of the CPU's well being i don't know if I would do it...

does anyone know for certain that there is no harm to the CPU as long as the voltage isn't that low that the system crashes...

thanks for your help.

no one knows exactly..
the first thing we have to understand is..
why can we undervolt our processors that much anywayz and have it 100% stable? is it simply b/c intel is putting extra voltage soo the processor are stabler? is it b/c intel doesnt' want.. a 2.13ghz to be that much hotter than a 1.6ghz? (marketing, so ppl will actually buy a 2.13 and not really get any disadvantage)

if intel was simply tryin to use the same set of voltage for their processor line.. then undervolting wouldn't hurt.. i used to undervolt to the max.. now i up my voltage a bit.. just b/c it feels better lol.. .

i don't think we will know the answer to your question.. why would intel not lower the voltage a little bit anywayz? maybe for crappy motherboards, the extra voltage would be required? i dont' know.. every processor's voltage differs a little bit.. i think what intel sets their default voltage is for safety.. soo undervolting shud be good..

1 more thing that popped in my mind.. what if a 2.13ghz P-M uses like a 1.2V and a 1.6uses like a 1.0? this probally means the 1.6 will have a longer life than the 2.13... wouldn't "newbie buyers" have ultra dilenma when they hear that.. the faster the processor,, the faster it'll die.. ..

Undervolting has NO HARM ON YOUR PROCESSOR.

You would think that it would increases the life of the processor.
