OMG Dell is driving me nuts!! RESTORE CD = OS???

Hello all,

As most of you already know, I ordered an XPS Gen 2 laptop about one week ago and I'm really excited! After reading some of the threads on this forum about fomatting the laptop and re-installing the Operating System (I ordered Media Center Edition), I thought that I should do the same since Dell puts a bunch of junk on the notebook that I don't want. So, I talked to two people on Dell chat today to make sure my laptop has the Operating System CD included in the shipment. This is where my trouble starts. Both of them kept telling me that the operating System comes pre-installed on the notebook. I told them that I understood that but I would also like a physical copy of the OS CD as well in case I had to reinstall the notebook in the event of a problem such as a virus. BOTH of them told me that they would not give me the CD's since the OS is already installed on the notebook! I almost cancelled my order I was so pissed!
Anyways, I called the last time and I spoke with someone the in the "changing order" department and she told me that the notebooks DO come with the OS and all of the other programs that I ordered. She mentioned that the notebook will come with a "system restore" CD. Now, I asked her,"IS THIS THE OPERATING SYSTEM CD?" and she said yes like three times. So, I took her word for it.
Now, I would like to ask all of you that purchased a notebook recently, did yours come with a OS? Is the RESTORE CD the same thing as the Operating System CD?? I know I'm weird but can some one show me a picture what I SHOULD get with my notebook? Thanks for reading and any advice is GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks for listening to me rant!

BTW - I just wanted to thank all of the forum members here in helping me decide which notebook to get! It really made things a lot easier for me!!

they stopped shipping with the CD.. u have to burn it urself.

the system restore is the Operating System only

if you want drivers, go on Dell's website.

Ever heard of the search button? This has been covered SEVERAL times.

Just give them a call and kindly tell them with some force that you just paid 2000+ dollars for a computer and you want the operating system disk you paid for. I just did it today and had no problems to get them to send it.

Dude, calm down man, your XPS2 is going to have the XP install disk to do a fresh and unmolested of install of XP if you want to. You wont have to burn a cd, it wont be a "restore" cd, it'll be a XP MCE install cd....and it will be in the box.

9300 customers may have to burn their cd, maybe some XPS people do too, but mine came with the MCE install disk just like I'd expected.

See my thread on the Windows MCE 2005 DVD and that should help you get one. Just annoying as all hell to get to a human on the phone.. Their "voice recognition" leaves a LOT to be desired, then there's the "English" the support people speak... But, after all that and over 20 minutes of hold time I have an actual nice pretty Windows MCE 2005 DVD, now I need to figure out if it'll install on a non-dell computer...

Actually I did use the search button to look for MCE and I found nothing pertaining to this specific question. I did find some information on XP Home but I had no idea MCE works the same way. Sorry for asking.

Oh and by the way, ever heard of manners? If you were so annoyed with my post, ignore it. I would never treat someone on this forum with the same disrespect as you just did. I thought these forums were made to share information with one another, not to criticize anyone about whether or not someone used the search button.

As for everyone else, thank you for your help.
