so intel 2200 + bluetooth causes wifi drops

Thread Starter
i read some other posts on this forum that had the problem of the intel 2200 bg card having connection drops frequently when a bluetooth module (dell 350) is installed too.

i have the latest intel drivers from their website and i still get the drops. a lot of times the green wifi light near the bluetooth light goes out though the connection picks back up again.

does anyone know why this is or know if a fix exists?

thank you.

This is why I will not use bluetooth. I do not trust it. I have also read posts about it causing unknown noise.

haven't heard any noise as of yet. i guess the thing is... it's really this specific card (2200) that seems to have a problem with the bluetooth running at the same time. i had the bluetooth adapter on my i8600 with a truemobile 1350 card and it had no problems whatsoever.

I had random dropout problems untill I used intel's 8.1.1.0 drivers and have not had any problems since.

ramit, do you have bluetooth too?

I have both the 2200 wireless and the 350 bluetooth in my xps2.. no issues at all.

No I dont, sorry.
Give the 8.1.1.0 drivers a try and see if it clears up the issues.

I, too, have the 2200 and bluetooth and I haven't had any problems. In fact, I was never able to use 802.11x with my previous laptop because with all 3 wireless PC cards, it would loose signal approx 15ft from the AP. With the built-in on my 9300, I get at least 36mbps throughout my house and 12mbps throughout my backyard (54mbps if I'm on the same floor as the AP). At any rate, I'm running the 9.0.2.0 drivers from Intel. I wonder if there are different hardware or firmware revisions of the 2200 card which make the difference between dropped connections and good ones. Just as an FYI, I'm using a $20 Airlink router from outpost.com.

I have no problems with my intel 2200 wireless card and bluetooth. I use a MX900 bluetooth mouse and have had zero problems.

tbones, that's exactly what's happening to me.

i've notice this happens when large files are being transferred (for instance using bitorrent).

my conclusions:

test 1
2200 bg alone with all settings for performance > power
no bluetooth hardware installed
when using azureus or bitorrent, works fine, no drops, green light stays on forever

test 2
2200 bg with all settings for performance > power
bluetooth enabled and installed
when using azureus or bitorrent, drops every so often with the green going off and never coming back on and the little connection notification in the system tray coming up

test 3
2200 bg with all settings for performance > power
bluetooth enabled and installed
no bitorrent running and no big transfers, works fine, no drops, green light stays on.

i don't know what to say. heh.

honestly i had my theory that maybe since bluetooth is running and when the intel wireless is being pushed hard (taking more power), that even with power settings set for performance, it still drops because the i9300 doesn't have enough power to run both fully?

that's just a theory.

I am not familiar with the Intel drivers, but go into the Device Manager and check the driver properties for an entry for Bluetooth Collaboration. If present, enable it.

i actually got very excited after reading what you wrote... and i checked and i can't find anything for bluetooth collaboration

i guess intel doesn't have an option for that.

No problems with TM1450 + BT350, or with TM1450 + BT300.

I have the 2915 abg card and the BT 350.. I have noticed my Wifi speed dropping like hell when I use the Moto BT headset for skype chat.

There is interference ofcourse. Question is how to minimize it?

just an update. for some reason, dell won't aknowledge this problem as being caused by the bluetooth adapter. they keep telling me it's my wifi connection problem alone.

I was having the same issue until i updated to the 9.0.2.0 Series driver recently. Apparently this isnt happening on just DELL, but also was happeniong on my mates Toshiba. He updated to the latest drivers also, and it resolved both problems.
