I am waiting to purchase the 4780 model and i am not likeing the battery life, so i was looking and i found this it should work, i think (adam let me know if im wrong) but it does provide 19v of power and thats what it needs. So it should provide a few more hours of run time. and its not as expesive as thoses other super slim external batteries. let me know what you think.....

Are any of the Barrels the right ones? I mean, i thought Sagers didnt have standard barrels..

Well it doesn't have the proper barrel, nor does it give a Watt hour or Amp Hour rating. I seriously doubt it will work.

Plus, we've been over this THREE times in the last 2 weeks.

EDIT: Found the watt*hour rating. This battery is just like the others, and is not sufficiently rated to power the 8890.

it might work for the 4780. if the design is the same as the 4760 one of those tips might fit into the 4780. however the power requirement might not work for it.

Its got to have at least 20 volts, unless it can be determined that the battery charging circuit can be segregated from the machine circuit. As best I know, all four pins in the SAGER plug are active. As least that's what the folks at Inspired Power believed based on their experience with the SAGER 8500.

Dav Freak might have something here. I just found some more detailed specs on the device here. The ratings are pretty damn close - close enough to warrant futher investigation.

Edit: futher reading indicates it can only source up to 3.5 Amps. Bzzzzt - wrong answer. We need at least 5-6 Amps.

Only down side is you would need to hack off the end of a Sager power adaptor DC cord and replace the connectors.

Now if only we could get BATTERY pinouts (well, I'd like 'em for the 8887, not sure how much different the 8890 is, physically).

I have a universal charger/conditioner that can handle the battery's needs, but it only has a + and - lead... my 8887 batter (and I'm assuming the 8890's) has 8 (?) contacts on it! - and I'm not nerdy enough to chance it.

myrkat, the leads on the battery are as follows (from the wiring diagrams for the 888E)

1 - + power
2 - + power
3 - BAT MODE (?)
4 - SCL_ATF
5 - SDA_ATF
6 - BATTEMP
7 - ground
8 - ground

So that takes some of the mystery out of it. You should be able to check out the lead numbers on either the battery or the in machine connection. They should be numbered. Best would be to get one of the connectors from SAGER/CLEVO so you make sure it connects correctly. Then you could set up a spare battery charging station. But best would be to put together an external pack with a built in charger/AC adaptor.

I am hoping the folks at Inspired Energy will come up with something. Wouldn't hurt to have a few more people send them inquiries suggesting they do so. Dave Baggaley [dave.baggaley@inspired-energy.com]

If you delve into that BIX computers power supply, they do have a 21 volt model which is rated to work with some CLEVO models, specifically the 68, 98, 822, 862, 873, 875 and 960/960A. Plus they list some AC and DC adaptors, but they are 90 watt, so perhaps just shy of running the 8890 without charging the battery and definitely not sufficient for full on.

I've sent them emails explaining the situation, asking that they get on it. There's a big market that is growing and they could get in on the ground floor. If SAGER thinks they are busy now, wait about 6 months, they are going to be doing twice what they are now, provided the economy doesn't do a u-turn.

SAGER's are hot, and getting hotter every day. They are going to become THE Tres Cool, Ultra Chic machine. Just look at all the clones, many of them trying to go extra high pop with the sales pitch and prices. But most people will do a bit of research, find out they can get the same SAGER for $Cs less from folks like PCT. YeahUH!
