Motion Computing releases the smallest tablet PC

Thread Starter
Today Motion Computing releases the LS800 as the smallest tablet PC running Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

It has an 8.4-inch display and is less than 1 inch thick weighing 2.2 lbs. It uses the Intel Pentium® M Processor Ultra Low Voltage 753 (1.2 GHz) and the Mobile Intel® 915GMS Express Chipset. The LS800 uses the 1.8" hard drive vs the typical 2.5" you see in notebooks usually. Also, it's protected by a plated carbon-fiber chassis with metalized paint.

Thats awesome. I would love to have that, but not as much as Id love to have $1900 bucks.

i have an old Motion computing tablet

not having a keyboard or a CD drive really gets in the way of non-business stuff

and the visual drivers didn't work well with the screen rotated, i.e. movies wouldn't play with the screen upsode down

although it did show promise as a new technology

Very cool. I think tablets have a large nitch to fill in the industry. With the speech recognition software advancing as it has they may sewe increasing sales for a pc that lacks a keyboard.

this has got to be a record, an old thread bumped twice each time a year after the previous post. lol.

Neato - Add it to my "when I get $$" list

Great and cool. But it's useful or not?

I'd say not...not with how cell phones can do almost the same thing anymore.

you're kidding right? show me the cell phone that can run vista, or even xp for that matter. how many gb does the hard drive on your phone have again? can your phone recognize your handwriting input directly on the screen?

btw, iirc, motion will be retiring the ls800.

I'm trying to think of a useful senario where I would need this. I suppose I don't. But maybe small businesses? Convention hunters?

i have the le1600 which has a 12.1" screen and it works great for taking and storing handwritten notes.

the ultramobiles, such as the ls800 are great if you need a full power pc, but don't want to lug around a laptop they work well. see also the oqo2.

the gist of tablets and ultramobiles is if you need to take notes on the run or take documents w/ you and you want a screen larger than your pda. i've used my tablet in the courtroom before and nobody has known the difference b/c it's the same size as about 2 or 3 legal pads stacked and i put in a leather legal pad holder. i have all of my documents for court, legal statutes and cases that i've downloaded all w/i easy reach.

definitely a niche market.

so you bring that with you to court or something?
sometimes i do, depending on what type of hearing/trial it is. i just put it in one of those leather legal pad holders that zips closed and very few people actually realize that i'm carrying my office computer w/ me.

Yeh that is cool. I just don't have a practical use like that. Maybe conventions.
