Dell headquarters in Round Rock, Texas (same area we're located - watchit Dell, we'll fork your yards) will be the starting location of the 1,600 mile solar car race through TX, NM, and AZ ending up in Pasadena, Ca.

The solar cars were built by hand by highschool students from New York, Minnesota, Mississippi, Texas, Colorado, California, Indiana and Mexico. The students will be using Dell notebooks and wireless systems to monitor/manage their solar car's power and monitor the weather. They will also be uploading their positions and stats to compare to other racers which the judges will be using to aid in monitoring the race also.

No word yet if mapquesting shortcuts are allowed.

And for their list of sponsors:

DELL
The Winston School
Terion Corporation
Macaroni Grill
Weather Decisions Teachnologies
Ryder Trucks

It would also appear as though Dell has donated hats to all participants, but I'm just guessing here:
