Woot! Official word on Asus Z70 REFRESH!!

Thread Starter
"Greetings,

I have just completed a conference call with ASUS N.A verifying the status of the Z70V refresh and when to expect them. ASUS has informed us that the Z70V's should arrive on July27th, then they must clear Customs before being shipped to us.

ASUS also has notified us that these units WILL NOT come equipped with the DVI port as previously stated. The DVI option will not be made available until late September. The units will however still come equipped with the ATI X700 video card and internal Bluetooth ( attached to this email are video card bench marks )

For those of you that no longer desire to have this unit because the DVI will not come equipped on the unit, please forward us your Order ID number and we will gladly refund your monies. For those of you that still want the Refresh unit, please respond to this email stating that you still desire to have the unit.

Despite the unit not having the DVI port, there will be no price difference.

Regards,

Rick Roberts - CEO"

what does a DVI port do anyways? lol

DVI allows one to connect to a HD monitor i believe
post #9 of 155
That would be nice if they refresh the Z71V too. That way we could take the video module from that refresh and put it into the current one eheheheh

Refresh z71v with 6800 or 256 MB But seriously, is X700 that much better (if any) than 6600?

DVI is arguably better than normal analog 15-pin VGA port, especially in higher resolutions.

Muhaha, what happened to the minimize/maximize buttons in the Adobe Acrobat Professional

3dmarks wise.. the go 6600 on z71v at everything stock scores about
4800 in 3dmark03
1800 in 3dmark05

the x700 on the z70v seems pretty fast.. i dont' know how much the drivers are tweaked.. but i think i've seen 6000 on 3dmark03 stock on the ferarri and 2400 in 05.. which is werid.. comparing 03 to 03 and 05 to 05. lemme recheck sum of the x700 benchmarks with the acer tm's and ferarri's

Would it be possible to add the DVI when it becomes available if one were to purchase one of the early models??
there are VGA to DVI converters out there, if you need to connect to a high definition monitor or television.
I have to ask, what exactly is the DVI port and what does it do?

Also, is there any sort of adapter that I can purchase so that I can connect the Z70V.r to a television's A/V port (red/white/yellow holes)?

DVI is a connection to connect to a monitor.
Most LCD's that are 17" or larger use it to connect with the computer instead of a VGA port.

The VGA connector was designed for CRT monitors, and sends signals by varying the voltage, which indicates to the monitor how bright a certain spot should be.
LCD's use pixels though, so the DVI connector sends the information digitally, and it's more accurate for LCD's.

You can easily use a small DVI>VGA converter to hook it up to a CRT monitor, and get the same quality as if it was direct from a VGA port.
