A51m behavior changed

Hi
After a virus messed-up my system and unable to straightenout after getting rid of the virus I made the plunge to repartition, reformat and install from scratch and pretty much did the steps described by poorboy.
After all the basic installation is done I notice right away that the lappy behavior changed.
1. When I access the CD-rom it also goes to the floppy.
2. USB device not recognized.
3. PS2 mouse not able to detect
4. On shut down it scan the floppy, cannot figure out what application told to do this.
5. When it goes to floppy the the sound is scratchy rather than normal
6. At night I left the lappy running but close the lid, and in the morning the lappy cannot get out of the sleepmode, even though I set to never to shut off.
Can any one tell me how to fix these problems.
Thanks very much

poorboy thanks for the detailed instructions,to make it complete will you write instructions on replacing or upgrading drivers on existing systems. Especially when there is problems with certain drivers what is the best way replacing(upgrading) or reinstalling the old one etc.
Thanks

Dynax
I like to add a primary operation with regard to formatting, since viruses are constantly on the prowl we do not know for sure if the AV report 'no viruses found' can be really trusted.
I start to use kill disk to really clean up my hdd before formatting. Since this was the first time I used killdisk I forgot to unlock by bootsector so that too can be cleaned.
The programmers that create these viruses are so smart they will find ways to slip their way thru locks and what not.
Hope this is worth mentioning.

You can use "delpart" for free to do the same thing. ( If Emil does not reply)

http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm

This will clean a disc of any existing partitions, and prep it quite nicely for a clean install.
