Well i Sent Mr. LAw an email @ chembook, this is what i said

Dear Mr. Law,

Here is an update, I did exactly as you stated. I used the cailbration uttitly to cycle the battery twice last night and this morning. Here is what happened, the problem is when you are @ the stage it tells you to run the batteries down, it turns off. Now you think that the batteries are dead right? Well it wouldnt boot with the secondary in so, i removed that, and it still wouldnt boot with the primary, which means it successfully discharged right? Wrong once I removed the primary and put it back in, the laptop booted and i went to the bios to discharge. It took another 45min before it finally died. Wierd Huh. Now am back into windows, after the cailbration Uttilty said the battery was fully charged and it was time to discharge for the 3rd time, but this time i didnt discharge, i restarted the computer and entered windows. Guess what the battery life is now, 59%, thats right, its GOT worst not better, and this is after 2 battery cailbration attempts. So now my batter is down to over 40% of its stated capicty, soon its going to be a very pretty paper wieght.

Sincerely,
Kirk Smith

Is smilepak the only one here withouth battery problems? I havent had mine for a month yet, so i dont know yet. I havent voted either.

People dont seem to get a problem till 2-4months after getting it, I had my since Late MAy. Problems started in August
post #184 of 896
This is right after the battery cailbration uttily said my Battery was fully charged, Does that look fully charged to you?

This is the only way i can get my secondary battery to charge, boot into windows with just the primary, and insert the secondary while its runnig, or take out the primary and just leave the secondary.

CHC, no battery info of anykind, IE charge time etc, notice my Wear level is 22%, before i ran cailbration it was only 16%, and before my battery issues came about it was only 2%!

I sent MR.law and CC matt @ discount laptops a email
Here it is-

Dear Mr. Law,

Attached in this email are some screen shots ive taken showing the battery life. Battery Primarycropped.jpg, is the primary battery status after the Calibration Uttilty said it was fully charged after the 3rd calibration. As you see thats not the case, also take note the secondary battery is not present because i didnt want it to interfere with the 3rd calibration. The Battery primary and secondary cropped.jpg is after i put in the secondary, notice it is not charging the primary any more but has switched to the secondary, this is only temproially of course because within 5-7min it will stop charging the secondary and attempt to charge the primary, which will not go past 58%. The last picture attached is CHC batterycropped, notice the battery wear is 22%, every time i use the calibration Uttilty, the batteries wear leaps, (it was 16% 2days ago, and i havnt used the battery since then only to do the calibration which you requested. The first two months the battery was 1% (end of may, and June, july it went up to 2% but in august is when i started seeing problems)Many others are having this problem (21 people on notebook forums alone) and some have got replaced batteries, but they seem to fail within the next 2-3wks. If this is a case this laptop is becoming a lemon, and i probably want to refund it. Why do you ask? I need a laptop for school that hold a charge, and i dont have to remove the primary battery if i want to charge the secondary. It has also just shut down in windows, even though the battery stated a 30% charge, and i couldnt get it to reboot until i removed all the batteries and put them all back in again, this for me is totally unacceptable. I was happy with this laptop until this problem arose, and for me this is a deal breaker. Asus has known about this since mid-july and nothing substantial is being done (http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...4&page=1&pp=15), that hasnt already been done. So am seriously considering getting my money refunded for this thing, since its worthless to me if i cant use it on battery, a pretty expensive paperweight if you ask me.

Sincerely,
Kirk Smith

Not yet. I asked him via e-mail and the bottom line is Asus is still working on it. I hope they'll figure out the problem and fix it soon!

^^

Well don't count your chickens yet. I hope Asus comes up with a solution or I too will be returning my notebook for a refund.

I noticed in the Owners Manual it stated that the battery will stop charging if the voltage is too high or the battery pack gets too hot.

Maybe this is the problem?

It's as good a solution as any. Everyone put your battery chargers in the freezer! (just kidding )

This problem is rediculous. My battery only charges to 47% and I need this notebook for classes... I havn't felt right about this notebook since day 1 but never exchanged it @ istnc and now I wish I had.

I know, i need it for classes to, and i have no AC where i am at.

I just wish ASUS/Resellers would give us some SOLID information. Hell, most of the people who have the battery problem would probably be willing to help ASUS out to fix it, if they let us now what kind of stuff he could try out.
Unfortunatley, a company is never going to do that. I can understand that they know most computers users aren't "power users" as you'd say, but still, I'm sure of the people here could understand basic instructions from a tech.
On another note, I really hope this problem gets fixed. This seems like the only problem that exists on this laptop.

I don't know if this might interest anybody, but I noticed another wierd thing with my battery. Initially it stopped charging beyond 69%, then it went upto 75% after recalibration and stayed there. Recently, a couple of times I unplugged the adapter and let the battery drain for a few minutes to ~1/2 hour and plugged in the adapter again to charge...windows then showed the battery charged upto 99%. And now, it actually shows charge upto 100%, but continues to charge. Also, I'm getting about 2hr:30 minutes out of the 'apparant' 100% charge now (this is without CHC). I think I used to get a bit over 3hrs when I did not have the problem. So I don't even know whether to even trust the battery indicator anymore? Can somebody who is not running CHC tell me what kinda time they are getting at 100% charge? I think my battery is still at 75% but somehow the indicator is showing 100%...does that make sense?

Yup, that is me. ehhe I had that for a couple of months already. If you use CHC, it will tell you it is charging, but at a very low wattage. +0.12w or something like that.

You might be on to something here - at least for my situation. My battery situation went back to normal after I unplugged the brick, took it downstairs (where it's a bit cooler and it had a few minutes to cool down in addition) and everything went back to normal. Things have been fine since then for me.

Hmm, where the heck do you place your laptop? My house hoover around 95 during the day (conserve power, turn off AC) and I can still charge fine. My system temp hoover around 55c - 58c on casual usage and GPU around 72c on casual usage during this time as well.

You guys got like a pillow or something below your laptop to trap the heat?
not me, my room is 75 F and its in a clear open spot, and my battery wont charge past 68%, both of them wont primary and secondary

Let me put an end to this. If you battery does not stop charging it has went bad. Return it to your dealer for replacement. They are bad. Period.......
