I havn't had any problems with long recharge times. I'll have to look a little deeper into it later. I'll get back to you guys

I bought mine from DiscountLaptops, but I've only used the battery on a few occasions, so its only been drained once. I'll let you know if this problem shows up, since I'll be using the battery a lot more in the next week... but I don't know if there's been enough time to show any effect.

What about the source of the batteries? I remember there was a problem with another brand of laptops, and they were a certain brand of batteries. I'm guessing Asus uses one brand, but its worth a shot...

Centrino Hardware Control informs me that the battery's creator is ASUSTEK. I wonder who that is.

The problem showed up after roughly three months for me, I think.

I drained my battery... and it recharges to 65% and stops...
Orange light is still on. I got my charge up to 75% by removing the plug and sticking it back in.

I did not read this whole thread (not enough time...) but has everyone with battery problems updated to the latest bios or if they have the latest one, going back to a previous one? I had an HP that displayed similar battery problems (no full charge) and a bios downgrade fixed the problem until they fixed the BIOS bug.
What bios version are you guys that are having problems running?

I know I am running on 0208

I'm on 208 also. I have had my charge go to less than 50% before on 208 and recharge back upto 100%, so this problem is stumping me. It has to do with completely draining it... I think.

Maybe one of you guys should try reverting to 205 bios. You can get it here (the Asus Taiwan Ftp) and see if it works for your battery problem.
It may or may not work but atleast you can then rule out a bios problem.

You're kidding, right? :hopes expectantly: If not, sorry. ASUSTek is Asus. It's the same company that built the notebook.

I was joking.

I had the problem with my original BIOS, and I still had it with the new one.

Oh, good! I was pretty sure, but you never can tell...

Actually I bought mine from powernotebooks.com and I'm having the same problem. Usually I run on ac power but now when I go to run on battery, it'll run for about 10 minutes then go into standby, if I plug the ac in again the batter will read at 25% charge then go up to 39% charge and no further until I unplug and replug ac power which will get it up to 41%. A battery calibration did not resolve the issue and I'm at bios level 208

OK - Something just came to mind. I rememver a friend that had a Mitac laptop that the power adaptor (brick) went bad. He got a replacement and the battery started not fully charging. The problem ended up being that the new adaptor was not powerful enough to charge the battery AND run the laptop. If he would charge the battery while the laptop was off, he had no problems - a full charge.
Here is my suggestion to those with battery problems. Try letting the battery drain for 10 min or so then shut down the laptop. Plug in the charger and let it charge for a while (3-4 hours or overnight if possible). Then turn it on under AC power and see if it harged all the way.

The power adaptor on the Z71's is kind of small compared to other notebooks and may not be powerful enough to fully charge the battery and run the laptop also on some of our notebooks. --
Give it a try and let us know...

Hmmm...

I had my system yesterday doing Windows Update. DUring that time the battery was charging from being drain down to 30% from usage all day.

Right after I finish, I unplug it and it started @ 100% full charge...

I still don't see the problem heehhe

Just like all CPU's and Ram, for example, are not able to reach the same performance levels maybe these power adapters are the not up to par. Even electronics that are made on the same line on the same day can all perform differently. Maybe the peeps that are having problems have a lower performing charger. You and I SPK may have a better performing (able to produce more wattage) power adapters...
I don't really know but it is definitely worth a shot.

Tried it: didn't work. Started at 78%, used it until it was about 60%, turned it off, & plugged it back in. Waited a few hours, turned it back on, and it was 77% charged.

Well I am fresh out of Ideas - Rob did you try reverting to an older bios like I suggested earlier?

So am I, as a whole. I'm sure Rick & co. did an equally thorough job for me as Justin did for you. However, if there's something not working as well as it should and it's covered by warrantee, I'm going to get it looked at. That's what warrantees are for.

p.s.: If a component starts to work imperfectly after over 2 months usage, it's hardly the resellers fault. They test system for a day or two, and couldn't possibly pick up something that would happen months down the line.

edit: White Heat, nope, I haven't tried that yet. The computer's currently on it's way to istnc, so I can't do it now. Maybe someone else could give it a try? (good suggestions, by the way! )

OK, my system is *#&$ed up. haha My baby Z71V only freely charges up to like 65%ish before stopping. I did a battery recalibration thingy and at the end of the recalibration (the part where ismy finishes draining the battery and you have to recharge the battery) I was charging with laptop off and LEFT TOWN for 1.5 Days to come back with the orange battery light still on! I turned on my laptop and the charge is at 67% with 0 charge rate.....
