You fill out a couple of forms for ASUS, give them a credit card and they charge a $100 security deposit fee. They'll ship you a battery standard overnight with FedEx. Return the original battery (on your dime) within 14 days and they are supposed to refund the deposit.

where do i get this form?
do u request for a new ac adapter too ?
I doubt it. As far as we know, it's the battery not the AC adapter that is the base of the problem.

Call or e-mail Asus about it. The one who sent me my RMA instructions is Mila Chao. I'm assuming that she's in charge of the department or something.

like Chuck said, there isn't a reason to replace the adapter unless someone determines that the adapter is causing the problem (which nobody has proved yet).

I just got my new replacement battery from Asus and I'm enjoying the fact that it's fully charged with the charging light off. Ah, life's simple pleasures...

Yep I called them up and got a pretty quick email from Mila Chao as well. I'm gonna fill it out and get my battery sent in soon. Seems like they're at least acknowledging the problem and are trying to make the turnaround as fast as possible.

after u fill in the form , how fast do u get the battery? overnight?
they send it overnight shipping, which will get there the next business day. For instance, they sent mine on Friday and it arrived on Monday.

That serves my right for buying an AJP Z71V in London duty free no I will have to send the battery back to London from Australia to get warranty on it.

This whole defective battery issue really has me sour about my purchase now. I am YET ANOTHER Z71 owner with one of these same defective batteries. All the symptoms are exactly the same. After hearing this thing praised about on these forums so much, I figured it had to be the ultimate laptop… Oh, how wrong I was (defective wise).

Now, I've been reading along on this thread since it was first started, so I was well aware when my battery refused to fully charge.
But, I'm beginning to get rather angry with Asus here. It's been how long now that they've known about this issue, but have yet to figure out the cause??? Come on, how long does it take?

I'm having my battery replaced, and I am definitely not happy about having to pay the return shipping. But now I'm worried that the replacement battery will have the same problem in another 2-3 months, just like others who have received replacements!

I think Asus should be a little more understanding with this, in my opinion, a pandemic.

Class action anyone? ... Or, does anybody have another realistic idea that might push Asus to resolve this faster?

From what I've read & been told, Asus is getting a lot of pressure to fix this issue fast. They probably want to make absolutely sure they've got the right answer when they determine a cause, so they're likely testing various different theories. At least, that's what I would do in the situation!

It sure has been a nightmare for me, battery wont charge past 41%, and now I'm off on Holiday. Luckily the plane trip is only 45mins, so I guess I'll be fine just about

I'm on a replacement battery. It's working fine for now (two to three days and a few light discharges.)
how long have you had your replacement battery?

Although I know it must be frustrating, you have to understand that, what we've heard from resellers until now is:
1) ASUS acknowledges that there is a problem, they are trying to fix it and they recommend you just return your battery, as their current average turnaround is 2 days.
2) You should not try and fix this problem by yourself.
3) ASUS is looking for a range of serial numbers on the battery packs, so that you could now a head of time return the battery when it is at your best leisure.

You really have to understand when to employ the use of lawyers in this type of a situation.
If, for example, ASUS said that the battery wasn't covered under the warranty, then I could understand those kinds of methods.

For now: Just be happy that ASUS is aknowledging that there is a problem and that they are working on it. Although I'm not happy that they haven't come back with anything yet, I do believe that ASUS would understand the major blow that treating customers so badly would do to them, and as such are working at getting at the minimum a range of serial numbers of the bad battery packs.
Just wanted to quote what I had said earlier. Currently, I find it pertinent.

I would just like to add this:
It's most likely not ASUS who builds the battery cells used in these laptops, so think about how frustrated ASUS must be after the company they ordered these cells from?

I would just like to restate that yes, it is taking a lot of time for ASUS to reply, but I believe (hopefully) that they are still putting a lot of effort into this. As others have said, ASUS probably wants to hit this one right on the ball, as to calm us all down, instead of saying a preliminary range of serial numbers, only to discover that there are more and that they have to update the list of affected cells.

Honestley, about the only real thing we can do to help ASUS at this point is to run our batteries to low discharges, since that seems to be the thing that makes the (already bad) batteries come out.

Help Asus by expediting the destruction of our batteries so we have to work on AC power and deal with shipping back n'forth? That doesn't seem a very useful solution..

I'm trying to get my replacement to NOT self-destruct by trying not to run all the way down.. I have yet to see Asus confirmation that there's only a series of bad batteries so I'm not comfortable that any replacement shipped by anyone is immune to this problem. I think there have been plenty of guinea pig batteries already that Asus can test on to figure out root cause.

I agree with you. I also would like nothing better than my replacement battery to work well for the life of the machine. Deep/full discharges will be a necessity for me in school (my classes are quite long), but I'm not going to repeatedly drain my battery just for the heck of it or to see if I can make the problem come out in this one, too. I'm sure Asus can figure out the issue with the bad batteries that are being shipped to them.

I opened a ticket on the Asus website and I haven't got a reply for over 5 days. I guess I should just call them on the phone, but the problem is I am generally at work during their open hours and I can't make a LD call from work.

I've also been trying to get my reseller (FrontierPC.com) to deal with Asus on my behalf. I got an extended warranty from them, I figured the least they could do is do the RMA stuff for me and I'll just drop the battery off at their retail store. But they insist that I deal with Asus directly. Bah.
