hmmm... interesting. My system still said it was charging in CHC, but it didn't actually charge past 77% or so. I'll know more when I get it back, I guess.

ASUS batteries are covered for one year from the date of purchase, however, ASUS will not directly swap the battery out until it arrives to them for testing. Once deemed failed, they will overnight a replacement to the integrator.
As of July 12, ASUS still states that they have not received any complaints about battery degradation but they are investigating the concern. We have sent them ( overnight ) 9 batteries that we could not get charged past 81% for them to evaluate and determine a cause. Once we receive word we will make sure to post the results.

This is just a guess but it sounds like it might just be bad batteries. I've done all kind of stuff on my z71v with no problems. I've drained it all the way down to 20% and always recharges to 100%. I use chc. I bought mine from istnc with no complaints.

Did you guys overclocked your batteries and not tell us about it? Too afraid it will void your warranty? eheheheheh

The problem did not occur initially. Although it's splendid that your systems are still working fine, that's no guarantee that yours are genuinely different. I went two months with nary a problem, and then developed this literally overnight.

It seems to be the BIOS incorrectly detecting the battery (if you unplug your system and plug it back in, CHC reports that it charges normally for ~2-3 minutes, then reports that there's no system battery and drops to a trickle charge.) BIOS updates don't fix it, though.

i highly doubt that it's a bios problem... like i said i have 2 batteries, one works fine yet the other one won't fully charge... it's the batteries which are defective and a recall by asus should be in order

Amen to the first paragraph.
Where did you get your Z71V in canada? I'm from Canada too. Maybe we got it from the same source.

Has anyone tried going back to 2.05 like I suggested earlier in this thread? That way we could possibly lay to rest the Bios as the problem.

I got mine from BCom computers two months ago. It's a fairly small Alberta chain.

i hope this gets fixed soon. I have the second bay battery and the only way for me to charge it up is to take out the main battery.
ok any update on this. This is really making me mad. now my secondary battery will only charge to 30% but the main battery will not go up to 99%. Really need to get this fixed as I now cant go a full day when im at job sites with out looking for a plug just to recharge. Please Please find a fix for this.
ok, guys, im having a weird problem with mine.
First time Ive started working on the battery. The thing slowly dropped like it should, down to 89%, then later when I checked again, it showed 255% with a reasonable time estimation considering what is stated when I was at 89% (2h 50 minutes)

wtf? CHC wwtf?!

Hi everyone. The same has just started happening to me. Battery won't charge beyond 36%. This is completely out of the blue - the only thing I have updated in the last few days is Power4Gear, how about the rest of you?

My Z71v was bought from AJP in the UK.

ISTNC sent a shipment of batteries back to Asus, any words from them in terms of status or info from Asus?
This is odd, my battery doesnt last long at all. Last I checked, it was at %99 capacity, and then I unplugged it and set it to laptop power configuration (not using power4gear), so its stuck at 800mhz. In about 20 minutes, windows tells me that the battery was going to die, with the icon of a battery and a X mark. I replugged in the AC, and its at %3. The only thing that in the usb ports are a usb mouse, laptop cooling pad, and a external HD that is powered by another adapter. This is very strange indeed.

I've been using the old Power4Gear since I got my laptop. It'll been 2.5 months since I got my problem, so I doubt you updating it is a factor to the problem.
I didn't bother throwing Power4Gear on when I reinstalled Windows (shortly after I purchased the notebook) anyways.

I have an IGo power supply (from radio shack) and when I plugged it in @ work, it would only charge to 67% no more. I came home and plugged it in my original charger and all was fine - charged to 100%. I took it back to work the next day and plugged it back into the IGo and still nothing above 67%. I then found I had the wrong tip for my laptop and installed that tip and it charged to 100%.

Just something to consider.
