As I said before. THe replacement proccess would be all that much easier if your dealer adhered to normal standards and honored their warranty instead of passing it to asus. For all of you not satisfied by your dealers handling here is what you should demand.
1. Advanced replacment. Requires a refundable deposit of less then 100$. Dealer sends you new battery while you still have the old one and you can use it.
2. Open the box and put the new one in. Use it and run the battery calibration util but dont use that too many times. Put the old one back in the new box
3. Make sure your dealer paid for the preprinted return label in the box. I know alot of dealers advertise round trip expense paid. If not call and request a return label.
4. Put the label on the box and wait for your refund. Call 800-pick ups or 800-go fedex for a free pickup or drop off at your local hub.
This requires 5 minutes of effort from start to finish. If your dealer refused to honor this perhaps you should point to their own written policy or the lack of it. Dealer has to express in writing their compliance or uncompliance to such a situation if its not in the policy then they have to honor whatever you ask for. Once again dont blame asus for this. Yes it is made by asus but it is your delaers job to make the replacment as easy as posible if they dont then thats how much they care.

Well my battery is at 92% now. Still 0% wear. 79-92% is a big jump. I wonder if I can get it back to 100%..

Or just calm. Honestly, it is not nearly the big deal that people are making this out to be, and it IS getting dealt with.

question were do you check there battery wear. Thanks. I would do it but I dont have my notebook infront of me to check to see where it is.

Centrino Hardware Control has a battery wear percentage (0% is new, 100% is dead) listed on the battery tab.

I also have a Z71v with battery problems. A P-M 2.13Ghz, 2mb ram, 80gig hd, etc. With a very bad battery. I didn't have any problems until I had a deep discharge, down under 10%. I also didn't have CHC until I saw the thread and wanted to get all of the information.

So I installed CHC and I get 64% charge and I have 14% wear when I just bought this thing in July to start school.

I do have to agree that otherwise it is a wonderful machine though.

i think i finally win the dead battery game. no, i haven't replaced the most, but i'm using my laptop right now and NHC gives me this

Capacity: ...

and also

Battery Status: Critical (0%), charging
Battery Charge Rate: 0%, +0.165W
Battery Life Time: 0h, 0min

If anyone cares, I'm back to 100%, except the light hasn't gone off yet. So weird... 0% wear.
As long as the battery light is always on, it's a bad battery. end of story.
my light went off... charge at 100% wear 7%, which is somewhat normal as I've had it deeply discharged a bunch of times.

I wonder how this is going to work out. My dealer is working on a solution for me, to get a new bat. + no turn around... this is when you like to do business with guys you personally know

Just got a new battery today by driving over to Asus's warehouse. The battery is working spectacularly. It hit 100% and the light turned off. It turns back on occasionally, but this is what I suspect the "topping off" feature is.

I will update if this battery dies. Kudos to Asus for great customer support who endured 6 of my emails and a phone call.

After many months with this battery issue all is solved after going to AJP in the U.K to get my new battery, I just hope I don't see this issue again with the new battery as it was driving me nuts.
If any of you guys from U.K needing new battery for AJP Z71v remember to state the issue clearly so they don't blame you for the wear of the battery.

Yup, I'm on the list as well. Won't charge past 37%. I'm going to call discount laptops on monday, failing them, chembook, failing them asus.

I had the strangest dream last night.

I consciously remember thinking "To heck with Asus" and going and buying what I think was an HP...or maybe a Dell....a spur of the moment purchase that I immediately started showing off to all of my friends...

...is this a sign? lol Should I move on?

i also had a dream. i was superman and i saw a young lady surrounded by sharks in the middle of the ocean who had fallen overboard. i tossed her a life preserver. not all dreams mean something. unless it's actually my subconscious commentary telling me i'm either too lazy or uncompassionate. hmm.. this was also a few years back.

needless to say, methinks asus is beautiful, but to each his own. any laptop can be beautiful.

on a side note, my battery miraculously recharged to 17% even though i had previously been running it consistently w/o charging at 0%. it must be the magic of thanksgiving. today, it's all the way up to 30%.
