Is this confirmed?

My replacement battery crapped out on me during university... and im about to send it in again. Should I wait before sending it in?

If there is anyword from big bird (asus) making it sticky would be great.
Heck, if any of the Asus NA Notebook folks posted here, we'd make a banner ad to draw attention to it!

Ok so its winter break now and I finally have a chance to return my battery and get a new one. So, I call ChemBook but, instead of just returning my battery they want me to RMA my whole laptop because they said something is probably wrong with the circuitry. I just got off the phone with ASUS and they said it was probably not the circuitry. All I had to say was the words Z71V, battery, and charge and the guy gave me an RMA number. The guy also said that I may want to wait because ASUS is working on a new battery design. I asked him when it would be out and he told me that last month ASUS said it would be a month and now they are saying it will be a month more. I need the battery for classes so I got an RMA right now. I am betting that the battery will go bad within a few months anyways. Thats all I got.

I would also like to add for those people who bought their Z71V from Discount Laptops, they are making you RMA the whole notebook to ChemUSA for a motherboard repair, wont let you just try a new battery. I am not sure if all resellers are doing this, but by the looks of the forums other resellers seem to be more proactive about understanding the problem. My hat is off to you guys, ISTNC, G2P, and any other resellers I may have missed.

I am not sure but I am guessing a circuity fix may be an alternative fix to the problem but for anybody who bought thier lappy from DL I recommend you just call ASUS with your problem if you don't want to deal with the hassels of RMAing your whole laptop.

Thats ridiculous. If replacing a battery in a car with the same model battery fixes the problem temporarily how does replacing the alternator to make it permanent make any sence? If it was known that the alternator destroys all batteries it is designed to reacharge then yes. No such conclusions can be drawn here. Infact there has been zero evidence of the contrary. Even if there was you are replacing it for an identical motherboard. This is nothing more then a bum battery. I all always allow the posibility that i can be wrong....But this is my take on it.

nuts.

i did the plug/unplug trick up to 90%, but the adapter was only loosely in my lappy. it died in less than 10 minutes, i think. i could be wrong and just have missed the battery life icon, but i'm pretty sure i would've noticed it docked next to the temp which i like to look at from time to time.

but now i have time to get a new batt. so it shouldn't be too bad, i guess.

I have the opposite problem, mine charges to 101%!

Capacity: 79920mWh
Full Capacity: 79310mWh
Voltage: 12492mV

It seems to be lasting much longer now it's had a few cycles..

Sometimes when a li-ion battery gets too hot the charger will stop. This is to prevent damage to the cells, i've seen mine do this once or twice (for about 15 minutes) then carry on as normal...

funny! If you've got a battery calibration utility in your BIOS and run that, it will show full capacity as your actual full capacity.

Regarding your battery heat point, the battery in the Z71v is right at the front of the notebook (by the lid latch), and the components that really heat up (CPU & GPU) are closer to the back, so the battery never gets too hot. But thanks for the suggestion anyway.

so.. i don't think my uncle understands rmaing, or he doesn't listen to me.. so i have a new battery, but i definitely didn't rma. oh well, at least i have battery life again.

Update: Second battery is exhibiting the behaviour. Hoorah. And when the replacement goes, I'll probably get to find out how Asus treats the batteries that aren't under warranty.

I got my first battery replacement Sep 10, 2005

Yesterday Dec 25, 2005 12:00 pm the battery started to charge forever again.

So, do I call Asus for another battery or sent them the whole laptop which i really do nto want to do.

My second battery is starting the dragging feet deal. I had a feeling this was going to happen because the frequent "out of nowhere" charges were becoming more frequent. Its at 99% and "charging", but not. I'm so glad I'm getting rid of this thing.

Its a shame ASUS had to ruin this really cool notebook with sh*ttie components!

I was making a decision 2 weeks ago, Z71v or Z63a. Despite of confidences shown by some members here on 2nd battery, I still had doubt about the Z71v battery as ASUS did not indicate what was the problem and if there was a new design rectified the problem. So I went for the Z63a. Hopefully, I did not make a bad decision and Z63a battery will be good and last longer.

Hey bahama, just wondering, how frequently do you use your battery? I'm worried that mine is going to have the same problems sooner or later.

Thus far I haven't had any charging problems with mine yet (got it in July) , but I am assuming it is due to the fact that I haven't charged the thing more than 20 times max, since I usually leave out my battery, unless I need to use it (it stays at my desk alot ).

meh, i don't use the battery all that often. I say I use it a couple times ever couple weeks. Other then that, its stays plugged into the wall.

I can't stand not having the battery in the computer while on the desk. I've tried to take it out while its not being used... but if it's out, it only has two rubber feet on the bottom, yielding a notebook that likes to move around a little more.

The day that it happened was Christmas when I took it on a car ride to Tampa. Used it for about an hour, the rest of the time it was off. Got home, plugged it in... wouldn't charge all the way. The damned orange light is on right now mocking me I hate this.

Add me to list with 2nd Battery problems... only charges now to 85%. I'm seeing some famililar people around here reporting 2nd battery problem now, who were reporting 1st battery problem at the same time I was... Odd, its almost like these things have expiration dates.

The replacement battery that Asus sent me was slightly discharged today after an hour running on battery. When I plugged in the AC, it went to 100% charge, but the trickle charge continued and the light stayed on. So I removed it and put in my spare battery that has been sitting on the shelf for two weeks. It was at 100% charge, no light, when I put it on the shelf. I stuck it in the notebook tonight and it started recharging from about 38%. It got to 57% and then the charging rate dropped to 0.165 w. Notwithstanding what everyone seems to think, I am of the opinion that the charging system on this notebook is defective. I am giving Asus until the end of January to come up with a remedy other than swapping batteries.

Hey Bahama, your Clevo M560a looks like a sweet laptop! I haven't been able to find much in the way of review or specs for it online. Any good places to look for more info about it?

BTW, if anyone cares, my battery has now taken the plunge over the edge. Can't charge past 26%, etc. I'll be getting a new battery next week. Any more news on this rumored new "fixed" battery?
