Abit works on Crossfire board
ATI IS MAKING Fatal1ty X800XL cards as we speak. They are being produced in its Chinese factory and you will be able to learn about them in a next week or two.
The company was always committed to high end gamers and it did a great job with feature packed gamers' mobos. Some people only want Fatal1ty motherboards as you can find some unique features on them.
Abit's X800XL Fatal1ty graphic card is a step forward in supporting gamers community but the firm has already realised that super high end gamers will want Crossfire or SLI systems only.
Therefore, the company has decided to start designing the motherboard based on ATI Crossfire chipset. Abit already has been shipping SLI Motherboards for both Intel and AMD CPUs, but we have to say that AMD SLI is selling much better than its Intel younger brother. Gamers appear more attracted to AMD than Intel.
Knowing Abit, its engineers will put a lot of effort to make its motherboard something different, and you can expect to see all that you can see on SLI motherboards to be the part of the Crossfire platform, except S-ATA 2, maybe, as this is part of the chipset and ATI cannot support it yet.
Abit takes some time to finish its motherboard nowadays and it's not leading with its presence on market but once it finishes them the boards do turn out well.
Its strong chipset partner, Nvidia, is definitely not going to salute this move but if you are a graphics card or motherboard vendor, you do want to offer both Nvidia and ATI graphics and motherboard.
