T42 has the nice graphics card and huge resolution. It is also more dated technology, which could be a good thing as more people could help me out. ]
The T43 on the other hand is the latest and greatest and I won't be getting a new notebook for another 4-5 years....

so help?
Thanks as always.

Well the second one is only 400 more dollars with .2 more processor speed and a better video card, not to mention DDr2 RAM I believe...If the 80 GB HD is 5400 than I say definetly that one....but if not, then it is all choice.... The Graphics Card and the .2 MhZ processor upgrade normally is 400 dollars alone....so it would be a nice addition for the 5.4K HD....if you get that one, and the DDR2 is faster RAM Speed....

Do you get 3 years of parts and labor with the T42, if no, I would probably go with the T43, plus with the T43 has more portability if you are planning on taking it a lotta places, Im sure you will be happy with whatever you decide...

yea the T43 does have a 5400rpm hard drive. Here is the model number 266872U

I think I am finally going to choose the T43... been tring to think of every notebook possible for the last two weeks, to put up against that notebook and nothing even comes close for portability and performance in my mind.

thanks!

The 72U is a very nice model. If you're not worried about money - go with the higher end in the T43.

... good REP? sorry don't follow

are you talking about the laptop as a the best ever, most beautiful, sexy, sleak, utilitarian, swiss army knife of a notbook reputation?

if so... ok
I think he means Rep as in representative - having a good one can really dictate what you will receive later on as he is the middleman facilitating your order.

ah well considering he is my brother I don't think that will be a problem... he won't bs me at all, and tries to get me the best deal, even if it means waiting antoher few days or week.

your brother works for ibm? can't you use the EPP then? I got the exact same laptop as the second one you listed, but it's $1600 through EPP.

Wireless on that model t43?

I'm looking at that exacty same T43(I too have EPP so I'll be getting it for $1600) but I'm confused about the wireless on the laptop. When I go to the checkout(after I click continue), this is what I see:

ThinkPad T43 266875U
266875U $1,599.00 1 $1,599.00
...
Integrated communication: Integrated Gigabit Ethernet and 56K V.92 designed modem (Standard) 1
Integrated wireless: Bluetooth Wireless (Standard) 1
....

I do not see any wireless card other than bluetooth, which worries me. Additionally, when I try to add a wireless card in "wireless options" and click "Check System" it seems to have no effect.

Can anyone assure me that this includes a wireless card?

edit: I just noticed that this model is the 75U whereas the other is the 72U. I cannot find the 72U available on the EPP site. How did the two of you purchase the 72U through EPP?

And mine is the 75U also.

eta date on shipping: August 1, 2005

I guess that is my only disappointment so far, but from what I have read over at thinkpads forum they say it goes faster than that.
