This is a common problem that people have been asking a lot recently. In most case, this relates to the network card.
After you shutdown your laptop or when your laptop is off, there is a function in your network card called "Wake On Lan". This function allows the system to boot up when it detect a certain signal on the network.
To disable this, some laptops allow you to do so via the system BIOS. Other laptop don't have this function in the BIOS and you must disable it in windows.
Here is a recent discussion about it.

Of course, depending on what OS you are using the steps above might be a bit different. But this at least will give you an idea of the picture.

| Right click on "My Computers" Select "Properties" in the menu that comes up Your System Properties will now show up Go to the "Hardware" tab Press "Device Manager" Now your Device Manager window will show up There should be a list of system hardware Where it says "Network adapters," open the tree there. You should now have listed network adapters on your computer. Double click your 10/100 mbps network adapters. The properties for your 10/100 network adapter should now show up. For me, there's a tab called "Advanced," and within this tab are listed Property settings. You should have something there listed as "Wake Up" or WOL. Select it, and for its value, you can choose "none." This will turn off wol. |
