Being in Alaska, I often get the short end of the shipping stick. My PowerBook, for example, made it into Alaska (Anchorage, I am in Juneau) on Friday last. I will not recieve it until next Thursday.
This is due to the unsavory fact that FedEx contracts out its ground shipments in Alaska. The last my tracking page showed (and will show) for my PowerBook is that it was "on FedEx vehicle for delivery" in Anchorage. This is the place where it is handed off to a contracted company, who sub-contracts through Juneau Courier in town.
Juneau Courier will recieve my PowerBook on Monday. They will then sit on it until Thursday, because that's when the estimate ship date was. They will not give it to me, and they will deny knowing anything about the package, even though it may be right behind the counter, visible to me. I have ordered many other products from Apple that have come through Juneau Courier, and this situation occurred exactly that way.
I am not pleased with FedEx's decision to contract with Juneau Courier, nor am I pleased that they will happily outright lie to their customers, but they always do get my packages to me - albeit some days (occasionally weeks) after they recieve them.
I'm very much looking forward to my PowerBook, though. First Apple computer I've picked up for myself!
