Radeon Mobility x300 Pride!

Thread Starter
I have been an avid reader of these forums for a very long time. But ive just recently decided to register!! I just want to say thanx for all the valuable information. Ive bought an I9300 with a 128 X300.

Now ive heard a lot of X300 bashing out there so i just wanted to put in my two cents. I can play all video game titles out right now at acceptable framerates and quality levels. For example, I can play Half life 2 with all the settings at HIGH (as it was recommended) with widescreen ratio at 1280x960, and gameplay is smooth, framerates around 40-45........

GTA San Andreas i can play at default resolution at 1440x900 with detail @ very high also with good framerates......

The X300 is in a different league than the 6800, however if you enjoy playing games, and do not care if your framerates arent at 100+ and AA and AF are not maxed out, then the x300 is for you.

The stock x300 in the 19300 comes underclocked with the GPU round 297mhz and the memory around 229, but you can overclock to 413 and 304 respectively. Ive used many 19300's with the x300 and all have been easily overclocked with no problems.

note: i guess i should tell you that i have 1gig of ram and the 1.73 Dothan, i assume the 1gig of ram helps with the above framerates.....

just my two cents......
again, thanx for this forum!

It is good that you are happy with it.

The 6800 gets about double the frame rate the X300 does. Not everyone wants a system "for current games" - they want a machine that will last a few years. Unfortunately, the X300 will be less than adequate with the new and upcoming releases.

BF2 is a different story.

Thanx for that little diagram........however those benchmarks are for then 32meg version of the video card.........its like comparing a 64 meg 6800 with a 256 meg 6800. my x300 is the 128 meg version, like mosts who choose the x300. im sure the framerates using a 32meg version of the x300 are not the same as the 128meg version.

THat's desktop performance, not mobility... either way, if your 6800 is only getting double the performance of the X300, I'd say you've got problem. You should get several times the performance...

Screw that my X300 64Mb gets 34 fps at 1280x800 with everything set to low on the CSS stress test.

HL2 seems to be coded well for the x300.

Congrats on your purchase

What is your point? The performance is comparable to the mobile counterparts.

my brother has an X300 128mb in his dell desktop, it plays all games very nicely.

One of my friends has an ATI X300 in his dell desktop and is already planning to upgrade

You could not possibly be happy with your wimpy x300. Please correct your opinion. Just kidding, I probably should have gotten that myself, I almost never game on my 9300 since I have a desktop connected to a big screen. What kind of battery life do you get?

Somebody tell me if they think I made a mistake, but my I9300 (arriving Monday) has the X300 with only 64MB of ram. I never play games (other than the occasional classic arcade game using MAME) and mostly will be using this machine for surfing the web out on the couch. I figured the $200 savings and the additional battery life made it a prudent decision. Thoughts? I guess I could always call Dell and tell them I want to swap to the better card or I'll be returning it.

You made the best decision based on your requirements.
MAME is not that dependant on top of the line hardware. I played Joust a couple of years ago through MAME on a celeron 300a/riva tnt.

You make it seem like that card can handle all games with a little less than 100 FPS just with AA and AF slightly lower I'm sorry but that card would have to run BF2 and Doom 3 at lowest settings possible and a crappy resolution or its going to be a slide show. You may be proud that HL2 runs decently on your computer but Half Life 2's graphics are extremely optimized and run well on a lot of older systems (Valve made a big point of that in many interviews during game development).

Please feel free to post your 3dmark05 score and your FPS with games like Doom 3, Far Cry and Battlefield 2 and the settings/resolution you used. I don't want to burst your bubble but the statements you're making about the card are misleading and I'd hate some new Inspiron 9300 buyer to think he could run Battlefield 2 at a decent frame rate and settings and instead it's running at 25 fps with everything on low.

Well, I bought my mother a i9300 with an x300 with 64 mbs. She doesn't exactly play games, (she's in her 70's) more like surfs the net, emails etc etc out in the garden.

Battery life..........She gets about 3.5 - 4 hours. No kidding.
