Hd Tuner Thread?

Thread Starter
I am wondering what a good USB tv tuner is? I really have no knoweldge on this subject and I know that there is a plethora of that floating around these forums. I need something that will enable me to decode an HD signal while also outputting to my Audigy for 5.1 support. I'd like to have component video in (XBOX 360 and PS3). Does anyone know of systems that do these things?

If no one can answer you here, try the guys at avsforum.com -> the HTPC section.

Very active and full of very knowledgable ppl.
ESPECIALLY good with HDTV on the home theater PC...

Here's some info from RobsTV--very good post IMO. From the Dell 9300/XPS2 Forum -> Anyone using a 9300 as a PVR and how is it performing? Thread

Quote:
I'm using i9200 with P-M 1.8GHz and 128meg MR9700 for PVR, and it works as great or better than any desktop HTPC's I've built and sold. I know question was about i9300, but if an old i9200 can handle it flawlessly, your i9300 should do even better!!

But........I wouldn't touch MCE if you paid me.
NOT needed, and as proven with my post, PVR works great without it.
Zero compatibility issues if you leave MCE.
For the average newbie to PVR, MCE will work, just like pocket 110 instamatic camera's will work for those new to taking pictures.

Primary tuner is Skystar 2 USB DVB-S for satellite reception, with the program MyTheatre.

Secondary tuner is Sasem OnAir USB2, for Digital QAM cable, Analog cable, primarily OTA HDTV digital antenna, and last analog antenna. Also has game mode, which disables all the tuning stuff, so you can connect a console like XBox with no lag.

Using 100" DLP for HDTV. (or sometimes just the 17" laptop screen and a set of headphones).

Using either onboard S/PDIF for DVD DD 5.1 and HDTV tuner programming, or SB Audigy 2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA for analog such as WMV-HD.

100% perfect results with all of the above.
I had been using desktop, but now share my laptops USB tuners with desktop.
PVR use is critical, since once you can pause and RW live TV, including HDTV, you can never go back to the old way of "what did they say" again. I could go on and on, saying much more, but you should get the idea. Laptop now replaces desktops for PVR.
