Ways to Max Out Performance

Whats up yall, its going on my third month with my new sentia and i havent had many complaints. I dont use my sentia for too many difficult purposes mainly just for surfing the net and word processing but i cant help to ask if i am maximizing the power of this little machine. I kinda have the impression that my sentia can really do better (performace wise) than its doing right now. I am not a computer wiz by any means, though i wish i was sometimes, and i just wanted to know if there was anything i could do to really max out my performace, i.e. faster loading time, faster boot time, things like that. I am not a gamer so thats not a problem but i spent so much money on the specs for this bad boy and i dont feel like i am experiencing everything i should. By the way the major specs are:

1gb 2x512 mb
1.8 ghz
100 gb

if any of yall know any way to help me i would appreciate the imput, thanks!

If you want faster load times, the quick answer is get a 7200RPM hard drive. Otherwise, if you have lots of programs loading at startup, go through and change the ones you don't need so they don't load at startup. I don't know any specific tweaks..haven't gotten around to it yet

Hmm. When you got the notebook did you do a fresh reformat? I am talking wipe the HD clean and install a new OS, and then the drivers specific for your notebook. I don't know about bloatware and what-not the Sentia might come with, but removing extra crap you don't use on your PC always helps. You can do it now too, in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, but sometimes the registry leaves bits and pieces of the program behind, ultimately making your PC slow.

Try a defrag? Maybe that will help some.

Hope this helps.

For load times, make sure you only have the specific needed items boot on startup (msconfig in run)

For gaming, make sure you have all of your graphics card settings set to highest performance.

Generally speaking, You could set the computer to run on fastest performance (hence removing the little graphically stimulating features in XP) you can do this by right clicking on my computer -> properties -> advance -> performance settings -> set for max performance -> check the bottom three boxes and it will look exactly like it was previously, however it will run quicker.

Enter BIOS settings check the hard drive loads first
But if you ever need to boot from the cd drive make sure you change these settings again.
