We will warranty everything locally, but still have to use ASUS to order our parts, etc.
Someone who has parts on hand [us and a very small handful of others] will obviously deliver better customer service, just on timing.
Others resellers have to wait for the notebook to come in from the customer, ship it to ASUS, wait for ASUS, then have it shipped to the customer directly, or to them and then to the customer.
It's goofy.
Well, I meant.... what's a good reseller that takes care of everything for the customer. So, the customers don't actually have to deal with the actual company, but just deal with the reseller.

Asus resellers are your primary point of contact regardless for any built-on-Asus model. Good resellers (like the ones you hear about all the time on the forums) will be able to take care of a vast majority of support, but like Sasha said, no reseller is independent from the company that makes the products, so there is always a possibility that you'll have to deal with Asus for something, but a good reseller will take care of most things themselves. Some of the ones you'll hear about on the forums are ISTNC, PROPortable, c9tech, Geared2Play, CanadaSys, and StarTech.

How long do the laptops take to ship usually when ground shipping?

that depends on the shipping method used by each reseller. It's not something we can answer here. Go to UPS, FedEx, DHL, the US Postal Service, or whatever shipper the reseller is using for that info.

When you buy from PowerNotebooks.com you will NEVER have to have any contact with Asus. We provide the 3-Year Parts and Labor Warranty w/Next Business Day shipping Standard on all PowerPro "Built on Asus" models, and we will never refer you to Asus or allow Asus to contact you.

For those interested, I added the reseller ratings links to the RR Elite stores, so you can see their scores for yourself.

Hey, you did all my research work for me! You rock!

Thanks for the info. I'll add it to the first post.

With the danger of trying to mess up a straightforward thread: Is it possible to make a separate listing for Built on Asus configurations? Im in the market for the new W3J, but only Agearnotebooks seem to offer full customization with extras. And they dont seem to ship to where Im at.

After hours of browsing ive only found Star tech, but they only go some of the way. The rest apparently mean AC adapters, mice and guarantees when they offer customize. I know some resellers will do it when you write them a separate email, but Id like to know who offers it from their website.

Well, there are a lot of resellers that will customize "Built on Asus" models. They vary in the number of choices they give you in each category (CPU, memory, hard drive, operating system, etc.) and by price and support.

What you're looking for is a place that will customize an Asus Ensemble model, which is a different story. With Built on Asus notebooks (typically models starting with the letter Z), Asus sends them to the dealers as whitebooks, and the dealers have the option to customize and warrant them as they choose. Asus Ensemble notebooks are completely built, assembled, and tested in Taiwan, and then shipped in sealed boxes to the resellers who in turn ship them to the customers. Asus warrants them directly worldwide, and so the dealer doesn't really have to do much except sell them. For dealers that offer customization of Asus Ensemble models (such as the W3j), they end up needing to warrant the altered notebooks themselves, which creates added cost and inconvenience. Due to this, not many dealers offer this option. I think you already mentioned the 2 most reputable dealers that do this.

Several Reseller Ratings updates done: some companies went from Gold to Platinum or Platinum Plus, some dropped from Platinum Plus down to Gold, and we have one new entry in the RR Elite ranks: GenTech PC!

I just went through and updated the entire list. Several resellers have been removed from the list and a couple added. It should be up-to-date for a while again now.

I have an ongoing situation with one of your listed Reseller Ratings Platinum vendors where my credit card was charged on June 1, ($1600) and I haven't so much as a tracking number yet. A principal of this vendor is a poster here and I'm hoping for some satisfaction before I post to ResellerRatings.com. If this post is inappropriate for this thread please forgive.

I guess it's okay here, but it would probably be more effective if sent as a private message or e-mail to the vendor in question. I hope things work out for you.

due to long abscense and their site being now down for an extended period of time, c9tech has been removed from the list

Wow, a LOT of stores stopped carrying up-to-date Asus notebooks since I last refreshed the list. The current list is up-to-date as of December 10th, 2008.
