Why no Dell 15" laptop with decent graphics card? - Page 2

Now that I have one, I don't think the X300 is really a bad card. It's about the same speed as the Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo in the i8600. Last year, when I really wanted a 8600, I was so excited at the graphics card. I don't feel any worse off with the X300. It's not the hottest card on the block but it does it's job well. I think the decision with the X300 is heat. I suspect that when ATi refreshes their product line this year, they will produce a couple of new mobility chips, and hopefully the entry-level card will not produce a lot of heat and be about the same size as the X300 card, and pretty easy to drop in to replace. I would probably put it speed-wise between a X700 and X800, but then everyone will just be asking 'Why didn't Dell release a XXXX card for the 6000?!?'

3dcomp, I notice you have both a i9300 and a M70. It would be interesting to get your views on them in comparison. eg portability, heat; maybe which one you prefer for which task, which you use more...? (ps. I am very happy with the M70, in every way)

Yes, It would be great to get your perspective on the systems since you have both of them. It's too bad there isnt a better crossbreed between the inspirons and the latitudes, maybe this new lexus line will complement they gaps? Im not sure, It would be nice to have smart card security and the option for two hard drives on the 9300 and a numeric pad on any dell would be nice too. ALthough its just as easy I suppose, to use an external drive as they come in rather small enclosures these days. Also, the new express card slot that dell pushed for soo hard, then didnt include them in their laptops would have been nice too. Not that Im complaining as my 9300 exceeds my needs, just noting things I would like to see on future dells. Oh yeah, some more flexibility in a multi card reader instead of just Secure Digital......

Dell's calculus predicts that most users who want high end graphics also want a large screen. They're pretty much right.

If that particular size is what you want, then I'd go for a Sager 7620 from PCTorque.
