wireless problem

Thread Starter
this morning i booted up, and even though i wasn't paying a lot of attention, i didn't notice anything wrong.

as soon as i rebooted, i noticed that my wireless icon was missing from the systray AND in network connections window... but my wireless was still working. no icon, means no control over wep settings and what not.

after a little bit of fiddling (i stopped the card in the "safely remove hardware" program), i completely lost wireless connectivitiy. i'm guessing cause it lost my wep key... and since i couldn't get to the proper screen to input wep key, i was done.

now i'm on wired connection... i will be leaving for home in about 20 mins... if you guys think of something before that, thanks... it'll save me some time...

if you have something AFTER i leave, then thanks, at least it'll be for future reference.

once i get home, i'm gonna reghost it to an image i made.

if you don't already know, it's a prostar 8814 aka Sager 8890

alright, the card is active again (i reinstalled the software)... but still no icon, and therefore, no connection (my APs at work and at home have encryption.)

any thoughts on having the icon show up?

The only experience I have had with the wireless not working was I had the icon but it wouldn't connect to the network even though it could see it. All I did was FN-F7 to turn it off and then again to turn it back on and it worked fine after that. I doubt that helps you at all but its all I know.

Maybe a solution.

I am sure you have probably already tried this, but just incase, here is a temporary solution, maybe. What you need to do is click Start, then on the right side click on "Connect to" and select "Show all connections" then you want to look "Wireless Network Connection" right click on that and then select "Properties" when the properties window comes up click on the "Wireless Networks" tab and you should have all your WEP options and whatnot accessible from there (you miht need to click on your wireless network and click "Configure", but other than that you should be good.
