Airlines powering notebooks

Thread Starter
DTR (desktop replacement) notebooks have no chance of utilizing airline power as a source and many higher end notebooks are having the same problem.

A company known as "Astronics Corporation" is working on taking care of this problem with 150W 110VAC 60Hz power you can plug directly into during your flight. The FAA has just approved it and you may benefit as early as the start of next year from this new power that can easily run any notebook out on the market currently.

That would be great... mY battery only lasts about 1.75 hours and my flights are normally longer than that...

LOL that is funny. Anyway, yeah those mainly exist in F/B classes but some airlines do have jacks in economy class (still for very few seats). Continental is one of those airlines. Even When power jack was not an option, my old none "desktop replacement" gateway centrino lasted around 7 hours with 6 and 9 cell battery playing games like Rise of Nations. and 4-5 hours for dvd. THat is good enough for 1 14 hour flight!

I have a 26 hr flight comming in January from Newark NJ to Chiang Mai thailand... It is not a fun flight. PLus the laptop I am waiting on is a Sager 9860 so no games for me! it's like super first class that gets the outlet and it isn't worth an extra 300 for me to be able to play games :/

I'm just about to fly to Taiwan soon from UK, will be taking China airlines...i hope they have a power socket! Would make my 16hour flight go by so quickly!

just use the old fashioned method of surviving those flights - 2 glasses of red wine, ear plugs and blindfold, and straight to sleep.

Works well for me on my regular (well 2-3 x/year) 12 hour flights Auckland-LA.

cheers,
Jeff

Are domestic flights putting in places to jack in for power?

I use to fly roundtrip Chicago (ORD)-Munich (MUC) with Lufthansa and aboard some of their newer airplanes they offer a PC power point with no adaptor necessary in business and first class seats only and WLAN access through the Boeing Connexion system everywhere in the main cabin.
